Some help installing the Mopar Fuel Filler Door

I got this when I purchased my Wrangler and I just got around to installing it yesterday. Ran in to a bit of a snag while trying to get the old filler housing out. There are four tabs that hold it to the body, but I am only able to reach two of them via the rear tail light cutout.

How do you guys reach the two on the far side? There is no way my hand can fit back there. I even had the woman try with her small hands, and no such luck.

I searched and saw some people only remove the first two tabs, then pull out the housing as far as they can in order to slide the housing towards the rear of the car, then pull out the housing, but this puts a lot of stress/pressure on the sheetmetal, and I do not want to dent it.

not for nothing, but the rugged ridge fuel filler door screws right into the plastic filler housing....no taking out of anything. 3 minute install. IF it takes that long.

Just keep working it out. It should come out with no damage. I have done two conversions and both cameout with a bit of effort, but no damage. When you install the new one make sure you get the small pin at the bottom of the ring flange, into the small hole in the body. It is easy to miss the hole and bend the pin. Then the ring will not fit tight against the body. If it happens, gently bend the pin back straight and it will work. Good luck.

This is pretty much what I did. I did not have to pull it too far. It was a bit tricky and the metal is pretty weak there, but no bending that I could see. If you pull it back toward the edge with enough force, the tabs compress which helps with not needing to wedge it out as much.
