Some oddities in my paint

Hello Guys,

JEEP bought brand new. 6 months old. 2014 unlimited polar edition.

I went off roading last week end. I washed the car quickly after and yesterday, did a full job. inside and out and took the time to wax the car. I removed dirt and grass stuck under the car so much, i filed more then half of a 5 gal bucket !

How to explain this ? i would say that : you don't know your car until you have waxed it...

Before we go with the pictures, i know some of you will say Relax, it's a jeep thing. But my jeep is my daily drive, and i see it as a jewel, kind of a mercedes G class or a land rover defender. Yes, i do like to get it dirty, but it will never stay dirty a long time !

So i'm posting this here to get your opinion.

Please note that i changed the exposure of the pictures to try and show it better.

So this first picture look like a scuff but it really is like there was a lot of extra paint at this place :

On the side of the hard roof top in the back there is a grove lined that serve nothing... it's only a decoration i would say... here is what i have on both side... again, it's extra paint :

This picture is from the inside button corner of the hard top. You will tell me i scratched it while removing the hard top... however, i never removed it. STAY CALM, i removed the doors and the 2 roof parts... lol.

So that's about it... i'm wondering if anyone have notice some similar problems with there paints.

and here is a before and after shot! :

And have you seen those beauties !?!

Unfortunately, jeeps aren't known for their excellent paint jobs...

You could try to take it back to the dealership and have Chrysler fix it under warranty, but it may come back to you worse than it started.

You just have to decide if it's worth it to you or not. We have hinge corrosion issues on both our jeeps and Mike's doors had to be redone and did not come back looking showroom new. Mine should just be a paint fix, but I am getting it done now, before there's a bigger issue. I'd be terrified of them having to try to blend my hydro doors. Mike's is a billet, like yours, and it is supposed to be one of the easiest colors to blend/fix.

mine had a small nick on the edge of door when I picked it up from the Dealer, but I know if I ask them to fix it, they are just going to use touch-paint and it will look worse. I don't mind though, before long, this brand new JKU will have dents and dings all in it probably from hitting the dirt/mud/rocks.

I will just Line-X every part that was either messed up by the factory already, or I do mess up down the road... Yea, I know what mine will look like pretty soon ... joking (?) aside, I also have found some flaws, some parts (vented window cowl cover...) needs paint or it will just rust away, others are just minor cosmetically and I think I will do more damage down the road the my JK, so it doesn't really matter much. None the less, see your frustration, not nice on a brand new vehicle... I think we just have to live with it. Kinda like the dash panel warping...

Thanks Guys, I noticed all those problems are from the hard top only. Balance of the car is really nice....

Might check with them during my next trip for oil change....

I didn't really notice the flaws in the paint on ours until I painted my wife's Poison Spyder bumpers with DTM epoxy and Metallic Polyurethane with clear finish. The bumpers made the rest of the jeep look bad. So we ran to Palo Duro canyon and beat the crap out of the bumpers and now everything balances out quite nicely.

You may want to go to Star Brite's build page and search about the paint issue with hinges. That is a paint issue that can cause real trouble. Especially if you are near salt, as in beach, or winter where they salt roads. Just a thought....
