Some questions before buying!

Hey guys,
I'm looking at replacing my 2010 Ford Super Duty with 2 door, JK Rubi! The SD is awesome and all, but it's getting really difficult to manage in the city. Either way, I have a few questions I would like to ask you guys that have experience!

1) I'm considering the dual top setup. Is it worth it, or should I just go hardtop and get an aftermarket bikini for summer?

2) With the hardtop on during the winter, does it get drafty inside at all? Basically, does it stay pretty warm inside? The girlfriend is concerned about that due to the JK being my only vehicle.

3) Is the factory navigation/Bluetooth/hands-free worth it, or would I be better off just getting an aftermarket unit.

4) Are there any options that people tend to regret getting and/or not getting?

Thanks a lot for all your input, and I can't wait to join the club!!

Just get the soft top. It is fine all year round. If you have a hard top and want to remove it, you need a place to store it and another person or a hoist. The heaters in Jeeps are notoriously hot!

I can't speak for the factory GPS as I have an aftermarket one that is much cheaper and does everything the expensive ones do.

Wow! Thanks for all the quick responses!

I had considered just going with a soft top, but I like the option of added security when I need it, plus I like how you can roll "sunroof" style with the JK top.

Glad to hear that about the factory nav! Thanks!

About the chrome, don't worry! lol

I don't have a JK, but I do have the TJ with a hard top and the soft top... hard top is on right now, but I am wondering if I will put it back in the garage this summer or what... It's kind of a pain, but I can get it on and off by myself, but friends help tremendously... since your in FLA, just get the soft top and the heater will do fine. If the GPS built in is a Garmin, use it, I have an after market Garmin and it needs to be updated, but it gets me where I want to go if I don't know where I'm going.
And as far as Chrome goes, the majority of us here are no chromers, but if you wanna bling out your jeep, it's your jeep, but just expect some razzing when you post pics! Welcome to the Forum, hope you buy a Jeep and stay!

The soft top has a feature called the Sunrider. It allows you to just flip the front section back like a sunroof as well. Even with the hard top, if someone wants to break in they can. What will you do for security in the summer with the hard top off?

There are plenty of security options available for the softop. I use a Bestop underseat lock box.

Not needed, but not a "bad" thing. Plenty of folks use both tops, but going soft top only is the less expensive way to go and will be fine year round. Please note that the hardtops for 2011 are, I believe, still on backorder. So if it's not on the one you buy, it's going to be a while until it arrives.

I don't have a hardtop, so I have my soft top on all year and it's not drafty in the least. The heaters are positively roasting. My dad has the hardtop on his JK and it's great too.

Don't have it. No opinion.

You're getting the Rubi, so you're gear ratio will be as good as it gets and you'll have the nice tires and performance suspension. Do they offer the limited slip diff on a Rubi as well? I'd see if you can get that if it doesn't come with it. Side airbags too (wish I had them ). Unless you really want it, I'd stay away from the leather as it'll cook your legs in the summer when your top is left down in a parking lot. I'd also get a manual transmission cuz they're way more awesome .

I'm planning on a security system with proximity sensors so I can just leave the doors off for days at a time during the summer if I want to. I will probably end up leaving the soft top on after experiencing it, but who knows. Probably end up with both either way. Lockable boxes will be added sooner than later too, that's for sure.

As far as transmissions, I won't buy one if it's an automatic!

Thanks again for all the input!

Just picked up my Call of Duty Black OPs Rubi 3 days ago. Last Jeep was a '91 Sahara. I can assure you the hard top keeps all the heat in and you will roast. The Blue Tooth & Nav are awesome and I wasnt even planning on getting them. So far I have used every option (except the sway bar disconnect and locking axels) and am glad I have it. Auto Temp is probably the only useless option and thats only like $150 option. I love the cloth seats with heat (will melt your azz).

Have fun!
