Some things to build with titanium?

So I might be getting my hands on some extra titanium that we have laying around work. Not sure If I can get an entire 4x8 sheet or not but I'm sure I can get some.
Just need some idea's for what I can build with it. Not even sure if I could find someone to weld it.
And it's either 1/16th or 1/8th. cant rememeber

Ya... Titanium is not easily welded.

Cut it up and make some skids

I might look into some skids depending on how hard it would be to make. No doubt it would be the most expensive skid set up ever haha

Airport fools would probably light you up with a taser.

But then, new Jeep!

How ironic...I do titanium welding for a living. Very easy to weld.

What kind of titanium? Tube or sheet? Titanium is actually pretty weak in sheetmetal form, so my advice, clean it, make some cool skid panels, and torch them blue.

Love the aerospace metals.

You could always go all apes#1t crackers and do a vacuum pump relocation bracket because that is hard core..
Small bracketry or trim stuff maybe?
Skid plates would be super bad ass.

It all depends on your level of creativity and your access to tools that can do the job.
I miss the sheet metal shop I used to have access to.

Probably pretty valuable, REI sells some TI stuff, they have coffee cup for $38, guess it is worth it when every ounce counts.

It is in sheet metal form. They are for exhaust repairs at work but we really have no need for how much of it there is.
They would look pretty cool with some torch blue skids though

I certainly would not make skids out of it. Way too thin. Sell it and buy real skids that will hold up on a trail.

Titanium is not stronger than steel. It is lighter. Skids are made from 1/4" thick material or thicker. 1/16" or 1/8" material is like tin foil under a Jeep.

there are many different alloys of titanium and steel but the general rule is titanium has the same strength as steel at half the weight.

It is not difficult to weld. I generally use 100% Argon and titanium filler rod. Much easier to do and get right than aluminum.
