Sometimes My jeep stinks

I'm not sure what is causing this. It only lasts for a couple of minutes. It has happened a few times, always while off roading. It seems to only happen in very wet conditions, possibly related to backing up in the mud. It smells sulfur like. All the details are vague because it happens so infrequently. Each time it happens I think I did something wrong to my jeep.

My theory is that its just some water (maybe swamp gas infested water) evaporating from hot parts on my jeep. Possibly I am getting some mud in my exhaust pipe when I back up (I do tend to bend that thing a lot).

I'm not too worried but I was wondering what you guys think. Worst case scenario, what does it smell like when coolant leeks into the motor?

i would assume its just the mud burning off, same thing happens to me, since in mass all the mud smells like sewage.

Coolant in the combustion chamber from a blown head gasket smells sweet and you will have a huge cloud of white smoke coming from your exhaust.

Quite often the mud you wheel in can be stinky because of the rotting vegetation that may be present. The steam from it touching your exhaust can be very unpleasant. Wet carpet will also stink, as will repeated visits to Taco Bell.

+1, Wet carpet will smell like used gym socks. You may want to check your carpet for any signs of mold. Thats probably not the issue but better to be safe than sorry.

First time that happened to me I ripped out the carpet and went with bedliner throughout. Best thing I've done for my jeep so far! It makes! life infinitely easier!
