Same old s**t, different year

Back in November 1996, I bought the TJ I just parted company with after 16 years. The same first issue I had with the TJ, I have with my '13 JKU. I guess Jeep is satisfied with their design, but I'm not impressed since it's the exact same issue I dealt with 16 years ago... Hood Flutter!

Now I would have thought Jeep would use a better grade of rubber in their primary hood tie downs, but it appears they are using the same crap from nearly two decades ago. Must have a sweetheart deal with Daystar.

I actually noticed mine doing it for the first time last week. Was wondering if a hood lock would stop this

Ditto about mine not doing it either. That was with the stock catch set.

I installed the Rampage hood lock catch set and I'm positive it won't ever do it in the future either.

Just curious, are the wheels still touching the ground when it starts fluttering?

My 2010 has started to do it. I think sometimes the stock hood hold-downs are sufficient for awhile before they stretch out just a touch and/or lose some of their elasticity. Once that happens, the hood will flutter in the right situations.

I expect it, so it really doesn't bother me much. I'm pondering some Daystars . . . . But I expect the simpler method is just to use some zip ties to shorten the hood spring. That should reduce the amount of up-force on the hood, which may be enough to keep it from fluttering. If not, clip the zip ties and order the Daystars, Drakes, or whatever competitor interests you.

What is the spring rate on your hood spring? You might need to upgrade. (Yes, I just made that up)

You guys must never drive down two lane roads at 65MPH with grain trucks on them.

Just remove the hood spring, it will take you all of 10 seconds, cost you nothing and you will have no more flutter.

You haven't passed a semi doing 75 in Wyoming or Arizona or Colorado where it's so gusty and windy the have permanent signs posted. Lol. Maybe a two lane highway in any location would be enough to give you the effect too?
