Sound System Upgrade

This weekend i installed a Pioneer AVH-p8400BH Head unit in my Jeep. I also ordered the extra parts for the Sirius radio to be fully operational. I am now looking into upgrading my speakers in my 2012 JKU. Does any one have any suggestions as to what to get? Is plug in play my best option? Also has anyone changed the speakers under the dash before? i have been told that some places won't touch jeeps because those dash speakers are a night mare to change. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks.

Hey can you chime in on the install? Was it something a novice could do if they read the instructions? Did you use any of the harnesses that allow you to maintain the function of the steering wheel controls? In not looking at this head unit but something similar in the Alpine family of DVD/nav/BT.

Agreed. Halfway down the page is another thread with another guy asking the same question as you. Yet alone about 1000 other threads with similar queries. I will indulge and send you here to the guy that got me started on my system:

@Olivestreetbrews.

I had the head unit put in by a company that does custom installs. I wasn't comfortable ripping apart my dash in a brand new vehicle lol. I didn't know that they had the parts for the steering wheel controls at the time i had them put it in so i don't have them right now. Going back in January to have them hooked in as well as the other parts for my Sirius Sat radio. I do warn you i feel as though i got burned.. i got the head unit for a good deal but there you have to get the harnesses and mounting kit then the 2 parts for a sirius sat radio OR 1 part for the XM sat radio, Then you need the steering wheel controls harness and if you want to have video capabilities or be able to use ur phone apps on the touch screen you are going to need a TR7 bypass... what a mess i got myself into. At this point now i am already in this deep i might as well replace the speakers and do it all right. Im just not sure how or what to get for speakers.

I have a P3400BH and a RF PBR300X4 amp with the JL speakers in the link I posted above. All the harnesses and XM radio kit as well. No need for a sub as it literally rocks the Jeep as is. I highly recommend those JL speakers.

You can do this, however the stock speaker wire is crap and I would highly suggest running some good aftermarket wire. Also, that head unit will not put out enough power to these speakers. It will power it, but you will not get the full potential out of them at all. You would do better to get a 4 channel amp (5 channel if you are running a sub too) as well and hook this into your new head unit and then run the new speaker wires from this amp.

What do you want? Are you a serious audiophile (which begs the question - why a Jeep, because acoustically, they aren't a great choice) or do you just want a better head unit?

I'm a musician and a bit of a music snob, but I've never cared that much about sonic quality in my vehicles. (home is a different story - I just bought a 12U rack mount locking server box to keep my 1 year old away from my home theater gear). I did however recently upgrade to the 430 RBZ (non NAV) head unit on my 2012 JK. I wanted a better interface, but I didn't want to deal with a bunch of adapters and conversion crap. The RBZ was a 20 minute plug and play install, I have 2000 songs on the hard drive, I have XMSirius sat radio without needing add-ons, and my steering wheel controls work perfectly. I may, at some point, swap out the sound bar speakers, but it's not a priority for me.

Which one did you get (model #) and how$? If you don't mind me asking.....

I think I'm with you on this one I've been surfing these threads for a while, any disclosure I too am kinda picky about my music (all 60 gigs of it) and I think the Infinity system in my 12 sounds pretty good with good quality music. Any, now I just got to figure out what RBZ model number to get. I have u connect, satelite like you. Which one did you get?

I got the pioneer AVH-P8400. It has a detachable face for the summer so it doesn't get nabbed. I picked it up for 545 on sale. Crutchfield is selling it for 799... So I got an okay deal. The installation and such killed me and now I'm about $1000 deep in just the head unit... It'll probably be 12/1300 when I get the steering controls and the Sirius parts put in next month. Must be nice to have a unit that all you had to do was plug it in and it would work like that.. I got robbed.. So no I'm this deep I figure might as well do it all right.

Also has anyone ever had a problem with the dash kneeboard sleeker? Mine has been screwed ever since I bought it. Just had a new one put in last Saturday by the dealer and it was popping that afternoon same sound as before... I still had my stock head unit in. I'm taking it back next week to try and get them to put new wiring to that speaker.
