Question

I would like to have more infos about this as well. I have the same stock system on my 2010 sport and it lacks any kind of bass. The quality is not horrible. I found some kicker speakers on eBay for like $80 for 2 but is it better to go with a different brand altogether?

The consensus is that you pretty much have to change out the head unit if you're after quality sound. I went with a Kenwood DNX6960 because I also wanted to add Nav and DVD and I must say the sound improved dramatically.

Holly crap!!!!! Your crazy for buying that thing! That some high dollar setup. I mean all the money is there. Its worth every penny with what it can do. But dang forking that much cash for one is nuts. Was install hard?

I am in the process of adding my Sony XNV-660BT to mine and I'll probably add some Memphis Car Audio speakers to my JK. I have some Memphis' in my Ram, and boy do they sound amazing! But I do agree, the factory stereo does kind of suck. Normally I'd add a sub or two, but I don't want to do that to my Jeep!

I have the 2010 sport. This weekend I got a small JL audio sub in a ported box and put a JL audio 5 channel amp on the sub and my four stock speakers. It made an amazing difference. It still needs a new head unit and a change of the four stock speakers for improved sound though.

I got it off Sonicelectronix.com. Retails at $1k, but was on sale for $700 with free shipping. So I figured why not. After I get it back from the shop (added a lift and electric lockers), I plan to either get a harness for it or take it to a local shop (know the owners so I get a good deal) and have them install it. Then add some Memphis car audio speakers and maybe even replace the factory tweets.

i was think about getting some 6 in shallow subs and putting those in the dash, i got some good tweeters to replace the stock, and then putting some 2 or 3 ways in the sound bar.... got a 7 in filp out clarion to power the tweeters and sound bar, throw an amp to the subs, i think it will have a complete sound to it with out loosing this little space we have to a boxed sub.. also thought of putting the sub under the passenger seat.. comments???

I'm planning on putting this sub under either the driver or passenger seat:

Sound Ordnance™ B-8PT 120-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

And this person did the same and loves it so I can't wait:

Sound Ordnance B-8PT Install

you pretty much have to replace the head unit if you want better sound and i would replace the speakers as well as the ones that come stock are crap

My stock head unit didn't even make it home from the dealer. Stopped at the store on the way home and got a new system. Didn't even change the speakers. They are actually not to bad when you get a decent head unit behind them.

rick, when you replace the head unit, does that include replacing the amplifier? i am looking to get the alpine head unit but heard that without adding another amplifier, then the head unit is basically worthless in terms of 'improving sound'... i have 4 new speakers (polks) and was wondering if a new head unit would make them sound better... i posted a thread asking this and no one answered :-/

4 77kick10 speakers, 7 in detachable face DVD HU, Jvc 500 watt mono amp, Sony explod 12 in subwoofer in a single sealed box.
600 bucks total. Installed myself. Saved myself a bunch of money
Sounds awesome with hartop on and great with topless.

I and others answered you on this topangadan, the thread is still on the front page eh?
Factory speakers are low power, cheaply built and have garbage paper cones. The factory deck is useless with the top off.
