South Cackolacky Expo Trailer Build

Getting ready to start my expo trailer build. Been gathering parts. Got tires mounted today on spare Rubi wheels, adapters came to mount wheels. Cut some steel, got some boxes. Now I just got to figure out how it all goes together. More pictures to come as the build progresses. Hopefully I have it done by next summer for the annual trip east to the OBX!

More pics! One half of the security team like to watch as I'm doing things. Hubs mounted on wheel to show it clears the center cap. Got to build the axle and get it set up to be level with the Jeep. Tons of measuring coming! Fun stuff!

Great build, looks like a solid little trailer. What are the plans to cover it? Is it for gear or are you going to do an RTT on top?

Thanks for the compliments guys. Got the sides welded in and took it for a spin. Got to figure out what lights to use then it will be ready to paint. I'll probably put a tent on it later but for now I'll just tote gear.

Anybody got a set of lights from a military trailer?

Thanks for the compliment. I don't know about the skill part. I sure have messed up my share of things! LOL. This site is great. Here is a pic of a car I built some time back.

Superbrightleds who is a forum sponsor has some pretty nice lights. I'm looking at putting a set on my expedition trailer.

Pic with the grill mount on the front. Had two of the aluminum cargo haulers I bolted to the top to see what it looked like. Worked out pretty good. Ready to paint now.

A little tinkering. Don't throw that old grill away! You can tell by the pictures attached here that I'm getting bored with the weather and I am getting cabin fever. I took the sides off the old grill and mounted them on the inside towards the back of the trailer. Now I have another sturdy table and another propane grill. I also have these where they can be removed and mounted on the opposite corners on the outside of the front of the trailer when I get somewhere and want to set up. I'm trying to make everything where it will "fasten" to the inside so I can basically store my junk in it and haul out at a moments notice if the notion hits me! LOL. Since winter is now here, I'll tinker with this thing all winter before I paint it! Keeps me busy and my wife appreciates that! LOL.

Looks great Ted!

I too like what you're doing - going to be a great trailer when it's done (hell, it's great right now).

Keep providing the details on what you're doing so guys like me who can't work with metal can continue to be envious.

No new updates on the trailer as of 02/09/14. Just waiting on the weather to warm up so I can paint it! It is sitting in the shop with the Jeep as we speak. Been tinkering with other projects. Cargo basket for rear of Jeep has been occupying my time lately. Ordered some more Aluminum today so I could try something different. I'll post a thread when I get the bugs worked out.

Everyone be safe!

Update:

Here it is with the 1st coat of Rustoleum Liner Spray on it. I put about three more coats on it. It turned out pretty good. It has a nice "rough" texture to it. I'm thinking about painting the the insets on the side with a silver color. Should I do it or leave it black? After it is all painted I'll put it together, mount the Rubicon wheels back on and use it!

Can someone Photoshop what the sides would look like silver?
