I just installed Polk db651's (not shallow mount) in the sound bar about 30 minutes ago and they sound amazing!!!! I followed the perfect instructions in b.lister's thread "Speaker Installation for 2012 JKS with Detailed Pictures and Simple Instructions" and will be doing the dash speakers tomorrow.

FWIW, I put some Sony Xplodes in the soundbar area yesterday (after putting a pioneer head unit in). Its true what everyone says, 6.5" does not come close to fitting the hole due to the size of the stock bracket and how it makes the 6.5" stock speakers fit.

Crutchfield included new brackets but still, the holes don't line up perfect bewteen the new bracket and the old bracket's holes it used to mount to the soundbar. I ended up just man-handling a drill and self tapping screws and basically drilled the stock speaker covers into the new speaker bracket tabs and on through into the soundbar.

All in all it worked out well... But its definately not plug and play when it comes to mounting.

Just ordered the DB651s shallow mount speakers for the front and sound bar for my upcoming 10th Anniversary Rubicon. It comes with the upgraded "alpine" system but am I reading the forum correctly that these Polk speakers will be a significant upgrade?

I have upgraded stock speakers in many of my cars and most often the OEM stuff is complete garbage but considering I don't even have the Jeep yet I am just assuming that the Alpine gear used as OEM for this system is just one step above garbage so any aftermarket upgrade should be a significant upgrade.

Any feedback from 2013 folks with the Alpine system?

legitposter: not sure if the brackets Crutchfield supplied to you with the Xplodes was the same bracket I got with my Polks...but I replaced Soundbar and dash with Polk db651s speakers and it definitely was plug and play. I have yet to drill any holes that werent already there, brackets fit fine. The only thing i had to do was trim about 1/4" off one tab on the bracket for the passenger side dash. But the holes lined up just fine on the soundbar.

Doctorsti: I have a 13 Sahara that had the Alpine system. I have now replaced 3 of the 4 factory speakers with the same Polks you mention and it is a lot better. Would definitely recommend for the 100-150 you would spend. My next step is what to do with the sub....

I installed plug&play kickers in the soundbar and i'm running a pioneer 3400 head unit. before the kickers, the OEM speakers sucked hard. With the kickers, the output was way better, but it rattled my soundbar light fixture. i poly-filled it today and it sounds amazing and i'm getting no rattles.

Now i can listen to OPB with full bass, baby.
