So my wife states that she likes having the top back but the sun is a little hot for her and our almost 2 year old son. I was looking at the Spider shades and was wondering if anyone had any opinions? Can I keep it on and have the soft top closed?
Did you watch the installation video on spiderwebshade's website? Also lay the shade out in full mid-day sunlight for an hour before you install it as it'll stretch a bit and make it easier on you
Thanks for the tips, but yeah, I did watch the video. It seems like the corners where the back spiderballs go are much "thicker" than the ones in the video. I actually put it on when it was about 95 out, so that should not be the problem. I'm sure it's something I am doing wrong, but I haven't figured out what that is yet. :nonono:
I had a tough go of it the first time I installed it as well. Not sure why it was so hard, but the first time I didn't climb up onto the jeep like the girl in the video did...I tried to do it standing on the ground. The second time I did it exactly like she did...I was standing in the back of the jeep...perhaps I gained some mechanical advantage. Just a thought.
On the back corners you have to really pull it and work it sort of in between the sound bar plastic and the roll bar, as much as you can. Mind the wiring harness on the passenger side.
I am looking to sell mine, if anyone is interested. It was brand new last summer, I used it one time and didnt like it. It is for the unlimited, black. I will sell it for 65 shipped.
Just installed a SWS on my JKU today. Love it. Now, with the top down I don't have to bake in the sun at a stoplight. Also installed a Supertop NX but that's another story for a different thread.
I did this today but heads-up I think they may have changed the grommet size on the SWS. 5/8 or even 1/2 is too large for the grommets on my shade. I used 2.5" 7/16 bolts hex, nylon washers, and wing nuts. I didn't mind the hex nuts as I just laid a large crescent wrench on top holding the nut just enough to get the wing nut started. It worked great.
Hello everyone, I just bought a spiderweb shade and I was wondering if it was possible to install the shade with the back half of the freedom top on? I don't have a rig set up to remove my back top yet, but I wanted to install my Jkini. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

It would be very difficult with the hard top still on. You don't need anything special to take off the hard top. One person on either side is fine. My wife is 5' 2" and she helped me.
Thanks for the advice. I found a friend to lift the rear top while I attached the spider balls. Now I'm concerned that I won't be able to tighten the freedom top screws on the sound bar! I'll get it figured out. Just another learning experience. Still smilin' and lovin' my JK! Thanks again.
Those two screws should go right through the grommets on the Spider Web Shade. I don't see any reason why your hardtop including the freedom panels will not go back on tight.
So I was thinking of buying the front and back singles. That way I can leave the back on but take the front off if I would like to. Has anyone else done this or entertained the idea of doing this for their four door?
I think fitment of a front based half shade would fit like poo on the back, but Dirty Dog makes a two piece set you can buy, I'd go that route, also leaves less of a gap between it and the sport bars than the SWS does.
how in the hell to do install the thing with the hard top on? i see no way to get the rear straps hooked up without removing the top. what a pain in the ass....

I bought one for mine and just gave up. I think you have to remove the Spiderballs in the bolt holes when you put the panels back on. I'd really like to have mine on but I don't see any way.
I put my spider shade with my top on. I just loosened all The bolts on the sides and the upper bolts almost all the way out. I lifted the top a bit and I stuffed the shade over the sound bar and pulled it tight over the rear bar Got it nice and tight all around. I used all the spidey balls where they should go including up front on the footman's loop I put the freedom tops on with the shade on. I just slide the latches over by pushing thru the screen. I dont use my freedom top screws thru the sound bar at all when i have the hard top and spidey shade onPiece of cake. I love my spidey shade
alright alright alright... i loosened the bolts that hold the hard top on, lifted the front, put a wedge there to hold it up, and installed the damn thing. seems pretty good!
I sold my black full for a red half. Nobody sits in the rear so I don't need full coverage.
