Spiderweb shades good investment?

I noticed a lot of people on this forum seem to like the Spiderweb shade under the soft top. Do these things really work to keep out sun light? I usually just wear a hat. Do you still get the feeling of open air driving when you use these?

They work extremely well and are easy to put on. I have a hard top and don't need to remove the spiderweb shade to put the hard top on which is really nice.

With that said, for me they actually block the sun a little too much and greatly reduce the open air feel. I'm sure some would disagree but just offering my opinion. For that reason I haven't even been using mine. Not sure what would suit me better. Just wish it was a little more see-through I guess.

Curious We just installed one on My wife's JKUR and went weekend with it. WeLike the shade real well and install and remove is quite easy. WE had to put hard top back on this afternoon and could not figure anyway to leave the spidershade on and install the hardtop. Can you give short description how you manage that.

You do lose a bit of the open air feeling, but the trade-off is well worth it to me.

Plus, it isn't like it is something that can't be removed fairly quickly if you really, really wanted it gone. I take my down in the winter when I put my hard top on.

We've had our top off for 6 weeks now and love the SWS. I just ordered the rear to add to our top. I'm hoping to do some custom work on my tonneau cover so that I can run all at once. We even took a 600 mile road trip topless with our SWS.

Love the cargo net. You need any addtional hardware to install them? I opted with the hardtop from factory so I didn't get the door and tailgate mounts or the softop. Also, does the cargo net stay on if you have to put your softtop on?

I'm in Dallas and it would be very uncomfortable without it. 85ish today and my left arm was hot today while the rest of me was covered by the shade. It only becomes more efficient once we get into the hotter months. Yes you do loose a little of that open feeling, but u can always take it off real quick for the nighttime drives.

That sounds miserable...

And it reminds me of the few times I hated riding my motorcycle into the city when it was hot. Getting stuck in Chicago traffic while sitting on a hot engine, sucking in exhaust fumes, baking in the sun in boots, jeans, gloves, an armored jacket, and a helmet SUCKED.

That is when I LOVE having my SWS + Premium top in Sunrider mode (with rear window "flopped") + Rugged Ridge padded armrest. It makes everything so much better. It is like sitting in a comfy chair in the shade listening to the radio.

Here in AZ, spiderweb shade should be a factory item. I installed my shade about a month ago and love it. It makes a huge difference. I absolutely recommend acquiring one. A little hint before installing it: lay it flat in the sun for several hours, it will slightly stretch and relax the folds a little bit too. This makes it easier to install.

When funds allow, I will acquire rancho tube doors with spiderweb skins to match.

I freaking love my SWS!

Bought my Jeep used with Hard top & Soft top, sadly the windows were "stolen" from the original owner. The dealership did me right though and bought a full Bikini top with header. Great top, but honestly felt like I was still inside the Jeep with the hard top. Going topless was great, but the wind could be really annoying and sun created challenges. The SWS is the prefect balance in my mind. Cuts down on some of the wind but not all, and cuts down enough sun that I'm not blinded. Had mine two years now and wouldn't be without it.

SWS is the best thing I've put on my Jeep. I couldn't survive a summer without it. It makes such a big difference in the temperature you feel. Before I could barely sit at a stoplight without roasting. With the shade, sitting still all day wouldn't be an issue. Love it and recommend to everyone I know with a Jeep.

i'll go against the grain on this one. i got a spiderweb shade as a bday gift 2 years ago. i thought it would be great given i live in FL and like to take my top off when the rain stays away. at first, i thought it was a useful option to have. but over the course of 2 years i began to change my mind. it is effective in keeping direct sun off of you. but unless you're parked or driving down the interstate without turning i didn't really find that it helped much. and to me, it is noisy. the wind whistles through it and i just found that annoying. i took it off several weeks ago and while it's not mid-summer yet, i don't miss it at all.

whistling might not be the most accurate adjective. but the spidershade definitely adds noise. with that and the fact that it takes away a bit of the open air feel and doesn't result in real heat reduction i took it off. and so far, like i said, i don't miss it at all.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I haven't had the same experience. It definitely keeps me cooler. I burn easily and without the SWS my bald head would burn very quickly. I got stuck in traffic in old St Augustine once with the top off. I thought I was going to have heat stroke. It was so hot my phone in the center console shut down with a heat warning. Since I added the shade, I've never had any problems sitting with the top down for long periods of time. I don't really feel like I'm losing the open air feel either. Maybe a little but not enough to keep me from running the shade. The only time I wish it wasn't on the Jeep was for hot summer nights. But it comes off in a couple of minutes so its not that big of a deal.

I think there's a big difference in types of heat that this shade will help mitigate. I grew up in Florida and the humidity is miserable, even in the shade. When you get to dryer climates, being in the shade makes a huge difference. It's the same reason that A/C is considered optional in cars and homes in the west. Those in dyer climates will probably get a much getter bang for their buck with these shades.

Either way, the reduction in UV rays is worth it alone to me and as far as I know, SWS is the only manufacturer with stated UV reduction in their product.

I have the "Jkini" on my 2door. It works well. No headaches when putting it on or taking it off. I like having the little bit of shade it provides, especially in town when you are stopped at lights and stuff. I could live without it though... heh.

In the spring I go completely topless, but in the middle of the summer here in south Louisiana it gets very hot. The sunshade makes it tolerable. It also cuts down on the wind for my daughter in the back seat which is another plus. I would definitely buy it again.
