Spod question

Hey guys,

Looking into having the gf get me an spod for the holidays. Does anyone know if you can mount it anywhere else besides in between the visors? I was going to put my cb there. Thanks in advance.

From the "factory" that is where it mounts. You would have to do some fab work to mount it anywhere else. That being said, I was talking to my wife lastnight about adding a CB, I have the Rugged Ridge Dash Tray and there are provisions to mount a CB on it, so it will mount above the radio.

Yea i am worried about putting it there. To me it kind of seems in the way. I was hoping to put it above and out of the way

I guess it would also depend on the CB you mount. The one I am looking at is the Uniden Bearcat 880, its roughly 7 1/4W x 7 1/4D x 2 1/4H, so its relatively small in comparison to some others I have seen.

Check out the Bearcat 880, its half the weight, a little smaller, though there isnt BT, but I had read some reviews on the Cobra 29 that said it didnt work well. I was looking at that one as well, but the Uniden is cheaper and with as little as I will use it, I dont want to drop alot into it but still want a good setup.

I contacted OTRATTW.com and bought contura rocker switches with custom laser etched symbols. I made my own switch holder and then, just last night, realized Daystar makes a 5 switch pod panel for $20 that replaces the lower factory dash panel just forward of the gear shift. It only takes 5 switches instead of 6, but I could have made that work for me. I didnt order the spod, I just bought weather proof GM relays off amazon and made my own for way less. OTRATTW also sold me a 6 switch bezel and a 6 circuit fuse block. I had a machine shop at work make me a small aluminum box that I mounted in front of my stick shift.

I tend to agree. I am just a hobbyist so my prices are retail. It would cost me $350 to build it. The only thing i can offer different than spod is the custom switch covers, but i sure the spod guy could hook you up also. Probably better off going with an established guy.

I opted for the sPOD with the Air Guage, a little bit more, but not too bad after the forum discount from EAD Offroad. I plan on adding an air compressor as my next big mod.

cool, thanks.

How does the air gauge work? doe it tell you the current tire pressure of the tire your filling up with the OBA set up, or the amount of pressure that the system is putting out?

It's telling you how much PSI in the system currently where it's attached. So if it's attached near the manifold (typical) and the compressor is running that may not be exactly the pressure in the "system", but close. When the compressor is stopped, after a second or two the system would equalize and it would show the PSI in the system. If you were using an open type air inflator (screwed on the valve stem) the tire would be part of the system and the PSI reading would be what's in the tire. If you were using the type of air inflator you hold open the tire would not be part of the system.

Hope that helps.
