Spring and the Jeep Wave

All right everyone,

Springs coming and tops will come down and the doors will come off. I think in order to celebrate 70 years of Jeeps we all should make sure to wave at other jeeps.

The proper wave would be two fingered "V" sign - not the peace sign of the 70's but the Victory sign from WW II.

So, everyone enjoy your spring and wave a lot. Be sure to share the history of the wave with anyone that might comment on it.

I wave to every jeep I pass, and I have to say that it is probably 25% wave back to me. Such a shame! I like that tradition.

yea tell me about it no offense to the new JK people cause the ones on here are dedicated jeep people but the one's who just buy it cause they want a family vehicle that will go ANYWHERE!!! they get the new jeep and dont know the rules when buying it. pulled up next to one yesterday at the stop light had my doors and top off so they knew I was waving at them looked right at me and just drove off.... so i gave them the wave into the bird and drove off my self. But yea it even took a day of ridding around to explain to my wife about when she drives my jeep she has to wave!!! but i catch myself waving at jeeps when I drive my wife's honda(but its cool cause ill get the honda when my jeep becomes the weekend fun jeep)

It's kind of cool, I do the biker wave, which is two fingers pointing down (meaning keep both wheels on the road) and the Jeeps I pass. Such cool little clubs I'm in.

Dude tons of TJs and YJs dont wave back as well in my area. Its not a JK thing. In fact I see more beat up 2 wheel drive TJs with no-waving folks in them then anything else.

I'm done experimenting with this concept.

I've been driving my Jeep almost exclusively now for a few days short of 2 months.

Doesn't matter what kind of Jeep in involved

Zero waves back at me regardless of what model they are in. Even in the parking lot or at the traffic light....and this is a small community where many people know each other and WILL wave to people on the sidewalk or in other rigs.

Jeep waving around here is not the practice in the selections of several hundred Jeeps running around my area.

Funny you mention this because I was just thinking today, that it seems like a lot less people in Jeeps wave. So met a Jeep today and no wave back. I'll always wave; maybe they'll get it sooner or later.

I try to wave at all Jeeps I pass. Sometimes I am gazing too long at a awesome add-on and by the time I finish my, I need that, I missed the wave but usually get it in.

The other day I got a wave from a Dodge pick up truck as I passed him. Of course he was towing a TJ Rubicon!

Did anyone see the ford superbowl commercial with the "one finger wave" they wish they were as cool as us jeepers.

Here its kinda funny. It doesnt matter at all what model it is. So far for me (4months) I get anywhere from my usual *raise fingers from steering wheel* to full out LOOK AT ME waves... The biggest wave i've gotten was from a mango tango JKU that i've waved at a few times...

I always wave and get a wave back about 80% of the time. It doesn't seem to matter what type of Jeep it is though. So, two fingers up on four, and two fingers down on two. Should be easy to remember except when I wave at the Jeeps when I am in my wifes Malibu, ha,ha..did that today pretty funny..

The best is when my wife is with me and I get waves from other women in jeeps as they pass. She still thinks im making up the 'wave'.

In all honesty I did get more return waves when I had my YJ. Oh well

I don't remember who said it before, but sometimes you need to put your torso out the window and wave with both hands

Im with JeeperJake. I've had my JK for about a month and I wave at every Jeep I pass and have yet to have a single one wave back. I thought it was because I was in a JK but I see a few others have the same issue. I cant remember if I had the same problem in my TJ. Ah well, still love my jeep with or without the wave. Not sure if ill ever own anything else. Did i mention the temp here hit 80 today.... Cant wait for my soft top to come in!

My best friend always thought I was crazy for waving to every Jeep until a long road trip in the Jeep. We were taking turns driving so the other could sleep, after his first shift I woke up to "Dude I got 6 waves in a row!"

Sorry, but maybe you could clarify the difference between these two 'waves' for me...

Personally, I do the two-finger wave-in the form of a "V". Because my last name starts with V

My first wave from a female Jeeper was a nearly topless girl in a nearly topless Jeep- They both had bikini tops on, and it was raining

Earlier in the week it was a jeep full of young girls and they all waved! Yesterday I was waiting at a corner and a woman in a matching black 4 door passed left to right and actually pulled the cell phone from her ear to wave with the cell

Maybe we should change the wave to 4 fingers toward the ground as in keep all four wheels on the ground

I'm betting every single 2WD TJ driver doesn't wave, ever.

We have a waving gap dammit! Okay, obscure references to Dr. Strangelove aside, I would say that I get about 50-60% response these days. The failure to wave seems to have increased since I got the JK. My theory was CJ, YJ and TJ owners have some kind of beef with JK's, i.e., don't consider it a "real Jeep" and thus don't wave back. On the other hand, a lot of folks in JK's aren't waving either. My theory on that was that a lot of these folks are late to the Jeep game and either don't know about the wave or are not really into the "Jeep thing" because they bought Jeeps for different reasons than folks of our ilk did. Still, I always try to wave anyway. (And by the way, in case anyone questions, my "theories" are really nothing more than idle speculation.)

Are you guys serious?

I drive a JK - I do not see the difference in a JK, TJ, CJ whatever - they are Jeeps

I could care less if you wave back, thats really not the point of the exercise

I have been that prick, when a wave wasn't returned due to other in cab functions such as the GPS, radio, talking to passenger, death gripping wheel when the corner was tighter than anticipated etc) It's true, I would have waved ... IF I SAW YOU

And a wave is a wave - I'm not adopting a special wave when getting a return wave at all is appreciated (as long as it's not the one fingered salute)

That being said, we need more female Jeepers in the Boston area

I've owned my JK for 2 years and I get about an 80% return wave. I'm not being sexist, however, I rarely got waves back from women so I do not wave to them. Plus I'm an older guy and sometimes it didn't feel right waving to younger women. Sometimes I feel the "snub" from non-stock drivers because my JK is still stock, except for a few add-ons that are not easily noticed from a quick drive by.
I spend my summers at the Delaware beaches and I do get more waves from the locals there.

Well, I don't know that any part of this thread is really that "serious." I don't do any kind of special wave either. Most of the time I just raise part of my hand off the top of the steering wheel and acknowledge the other Jeep driver. People either wave or they don't. I don't take it personally but I have noticed fewer waving the last few years at the same time I've saw the number of Jeep Wranglers on the road seem to go up. Just casual observation.
