Question: I have a new Rampage top. Can I put a SS or DD shade top on and leave it on while the top is on as well?

I went ahead and bought the full safari for SWS. I wish they made a two piece and could have gone with DD, but really like to support American companies if possible. Also when I bought my JKini I ordered Saturday morning and it was delivered on Monday so I know their CS and turn around time is great.

That is what I did with mine. I ran the bunjee through the hole and it works great.

Curious about long versus standard length. Would you imagine needing to disconnect rear ties when using soft top? Especially for rear visibility or to get in cargo compartment from rear seat?
I just can't make up my mind.

Kramer, did you go with full?

I have 2Door JK, if you think that makes a difference

I will say SWS has the best turnaround time. Ordered on Wednesday and received on Friday.

Pulling the trigger on a DD as soon as I get the discount code from Ryan. For me, I still want some sun to get through, but would like a little bit of shade. Plus, the option of leaving the rear piece on for the dogs, while taking the front off, was a big advantage.

I have the Dirty Dog and really like that it has straps so I can tighten it as much as I need instead of the bungy cords.

I've been running the Dirty Dog under both the hardtop and softtop and really love it. I got the gray one which makes the inside of the jeep a little lighter as well.

I want to test out the DD I purchased but I have had a bad experience since the beginning with Dirty dog.

1. I ordered one of the sun shades at the cost of $170 and never received any kind of confirmation email.

2. I have no status of the item through the entire process as I also never received an email when the item is shipped.

3. The product finally arrives today the 30th.

Read the directions and watched a video on how to install. At the very beginning where you pass the front part between the door frame and roll bar to attach to the plastic window frame with the little hook, I barely pull on the bungee and it comes out of the strap. and when I mean barely I mean I only put enough force to just start stretching the bungee and it pops out of the strap and the sewn threads are loose like it was not sewn properly.

I've emailed support and hopefully they will remedy my situation. I know things happen sometimes but as I told them I am slowly losing faith.

Many good tips and links here...

Here's mine:

I've had SWS on my JKURs, and for around $20 (grommet kit and more ball bungees from Home Depot) I add a few more grommets and bungees to stretch and hold where I needed it.

Get what works for you, i.e. color, needs, etc... eventually, everything wears out, stretches, etc... and go with it.

Has anyone gone with a white shade? I've got a white JKUR and that's the only color other than black that I would consider. Wondering if the white will make it cooler (and show a lot of dirt)?

Thanks

What type of fluttering do people experience with the SWS and DD at highway speeds? I installed a JK-2D on my Jeep today
JK-2D | SPIDERWEBSHADE

The fluttering I am experiencing in the rear end of the shade is TERRIBLE

As best I can tell I have the installation done right

Is this normal, can JK-2dr owners who have the DD on their Jeeps chime in and share their experiences?

I have an email to SWS support, if they tell me that this is the expected behavior I will be returning my JK-2D and replacing it with either a Jkini (the front of the JK-2D is rock solid) or a DD.

Can't speak to the 2dr but I'm loving my 2pc DD for my 4dr. Tight and no flapping on the hwy at all.
Here are a couple pics.

2 piece DD here for a 2 door and no flapping. I think the problem with the 1 piece SWS is that since it is continuous over the sound bar, air gets under and pushes it up and down as the air moves rearward. With the DD there is a small gap they recommend you leave just before the sound bar and after too. This way with 2 pieces, each one acts independently and the air hits the sound bar and goes over the rear piece. Much better aerodynamic design IMHO. I can also just run with only the front or only the rear. Much more versatile and a slam dunk. Also, I prefer the the straps with buckles as compared to elastic bungee cord/balls. I can tighten it up to my liking.

Even in the rear, and even over 50 mph? One of the big differences with the JK and JKU is that on the JKU you have a bar to attach the fabric to, while on the JK you have this unsupported span of fabric that acts as a sail.

That is indeed the case, but they do have grommets for the freedom bolts. For $4 in parts you can buy 2.5" bolts, metal and rubber washers and some nuts and clamp it down so it does not flap. However, there is nothing you can do on the SWS to keep the rear end from flapping. With the DD you have straps that you can tighten so maybe this is its saving grace. Given that none of the stores that sell DD will accept returns once you mount it I am afraid to sink another $125 just to try it.

Love my Spiderweb shade. No flapping at all. I think it's all in how you fasten in the back.

Yep. I still wouldn't get the long one piece design. You could always sell it privately if not happy with it. No damage to the item occurs by installing it.

For another alternative, I just put on the Rugged Ridge Eclipse Sun Shade (front only kini style) and really like it! Was cheaper and has some things I like better too.

DD all the way! 2 piece for a jku and really like the fit and quality. My wife says you go to all the trouble to make it a convertable then put a top on. That top keeps me comfortable and my bald head from burning!

Let's not forget the reduction in wind and noise on the hwy.

I have the white Dirty Dog and I think it would make it cooler. I also like the look of the white DD under the soft top.

So I bought the 4dr Spyder Shade for my 2014 JKU w/ hard-top.

With hard top off, there is some "fluttering" over the sound bar area. The question I have for others is - what do you when taking on/off the freedom tops? It's a bit of a pain to connect/reconnect the SpyderShade. And when the freedom tops are on, you cannot keep the SpyderShade connected as it uses the same windshield header clips/hooks that the Freedom Top clips to. So the SpyderShade sags down.

I am thinking of going to the DirtyDog as I can remove the front section. Thoughts?

^ I have the spyderShade, and last year just lined the holes up and kept it on under the hard top. This year just left my hardtop off all summer.
*just remove the front 3 clips and leave it on.* under the hard top.

Here in the Midwest, with the unsettling weather, I might sell my spydershade and just get a soft top for summer, and use my freedom for winter.

right now , I just don't drive it when it rains

Does the SpyderShade sag down when you just undo the 3 clips? Mine sagged and touched my head.

I bought a Harken hard-top roof hoist, so we take our hard top on and off frequently. But despite that, just running with freedom tops off, then back on - the shade sags when freedom tops need to be installed.

TIA.
