squealing noise on 2012 jeep wrangler

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport S 6spd manual with the 3.6 Pentastar engine and only 167 miles. There is a faint high pitch squealing noise coming from the front of the Jeep when I'm idling or driving. The only time I do not hear the squeal is when I engage the clutch. I have a feeling it might be the throw out bearing but I wanted your opinions on what it could be. I have an appointment set up with the dealership on the 24th so I will keep you updated. Thanks!

I had something similar happen to me around 110 miles. I didn't notice it when I was driving, but definitely when idling. My buddy is a VW mechanic and he said it could be a clutch fork. At any rate, I took it to the dealer and showed them the noise. The noise went away when it was in for service, so they just gave it back to me. They said that there may be a few noises during the first 500 miles of break-in. Sounds like a bs line to me for poor initial quality.

On a side note, I now have a new noise at about 600 miles. It sounds like a whirring squeal when at low (1300-1500) RPMs just cruising around and you give it gas. Say, 4th gear at about 30 MPH and you go to speed up just a bit. Had it at the dealer today and they said it was a loose inspection plate, which is dealer speak for "we didn't do sh*t" because the noise is still there. They also found a leaky shock absorber in the front right while they were under there AAANNND my hands free module took a dump. It was butting in every 30 seconds asking to be voice trained or updated or whatever. They fixed that though. I swear I had less problems in the 4 years I owned my 98 TJ SE with 110K on the ticker than in the first 600 miles of this one. Hopefully they fix this crap next Thursday and I can stop driving back and forth to the dealer. /EndRant

I do have a feeling that the two noises are in fact connected though.

There were TSB'S for earlier Jk"s
For the clutch TOB (squeal under load) and for a defective clutch disk (creaky door like sound) the 6 speed tranny is the same so I'm wondering if those issues still
Go on ??

My 07's clutch pedal feels like crap and creeks, dealer "could not replicate the sound" .... Of coarse not

They did "document" my concerns and told me to drive it more.

Performance has not changed so still not sure what I'm going to do.

You can look up the TSB's for reference. If you can't find, I have them somewhere.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. The TSBs can be found pretty easily with a quick google search. I will be taking them to the dealer with me when I go back for service. One is the clutch disk squeaking and the other is for incorrect preload on the TOB.

Yep, those are the TSB's--good luck.

One thing I can't figure out is why my clutch/clutch pedal is quiet and feels smooth when I drive to work in the morning. As the day goes on it gets noisy (creaky) and feels strange. It's like- as everything heats up it gets worse.
Doesn't seem to effect performance or slipping, but I did see somewhere on another forum a couple post where the jeep accelerated better after their clutch was repaired.

Thanks so much guys. I'm going to bring the TSB's with me when I go. I just wish they could give me a date sooner than the 24th. I was driving home from work yesterday and the noise started to become more faint. I'll bet that it's gone by the 24th and they tell me a BS line that it was just the weird quirks of initial break in on a new vehicle. I'm already at 1,580 miles (I love this thing ) and it's still there...it's like jkunlimitedfun said...just poor intial quality...

I have the same noise on mine. I noticed it at about 7800 miles on my 2011. A high pitch whining that goes away when I push in on the clutch. Took it to the dealer today and sure enough its the TOB. Should be getting fixed under warranty as soon as I can get a morning off work to drop it off.

I just got my 2012 on Friday and I started noticing a whirring or squealing sound from the clutch at about 50 miles, however, it happens when I push the pedal in firmly and goes away when I release it. Its most noticeable when I start the Jeep in the garage with the transmission in neutral and the clutch pedal depressed firmly. Should I forget about it or take it to the dealership?

I ended up never bringing it cause sure it enough it went away like a week after my last post. I was told that the throw out bearing could have been a little rusty from sitting in the lot and many other possible reasons. But it's gone now and there is no issues with shifting, acceleration, power or anything so I'm just going to let it be. Plus I have no time with work right now to bring it in. Sorry I couldn't be of much help..

Wow, looks like you have a dealer that actually fixes things! I'm almost tempted to drive this heap down to VA!

I would take it in. It doesn't mean that they'll fix anything, but at least you'll have it on record. I've taken mine in three times for this already. The third time was a different dealer and they told me to drive it until it got louder! Can you believe that BS? A Chrysler regional manager is coming out to take a look at it now that I've initiated a complaint through Chrysler Customer Care. Hopefully it gets resolved, otherwise I'm going to have to resort to bashing in skulls.

I thought I should just give an update as to what happened in case it does it for someone else. My problem was a squealing sound at low RPMs, clutch fully engaged, under slight load. It turns out that one of the damper springs (the radial ones on the clutch disc) was making the noise. After a month long ordeal, the dealer finally replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Voila, noise gone!

lol I have the same issue right now. and yes, i was told it was going to pass with more milage on the jeep. if it's bs or not what the dealership said, it kind of makes SOME sense, idk, maybe I'm just being optimistic. but they offered that I bring it back in if it continues for a long time. not like they said "don't come back, it's a non-issue" they simply said give the engine time to break in and if it's still making noise, bring her back in. I'm good with that answer because they assured me it wasn't doing any damage. luckily, I'm still under warranty so if it is, I'm still covered. honestly not worried about it anymore. it's so faint.

after many years, i finally bought my Jeep (2012 Jeep Wrangler 2 doors manual transmission). unfortunately, the noise from the engine makes me worry if i got a lemon. it is just loud! i have driven manual transmission b4 and never felt so uncomfortable. i will bring it in next week but sounds like the dealer isn't gonna do much seeing similar posts. sigh.....Jeep is my dream car!
