I am new to Jeeps I just bought an 08 Wrangler Unlimited X today and it feels like it is going to stall when I first hit the gas but recovers and it also feels like it is going to stall when I come to a stop, is this normal or is it something that needs to be checked out?
I checked the car fax and it didnt show all of the service being done, but it only has 38000 miles so Im not sure the maintenance schedule. I was thinking it probably just needs new plugs. Thanks for your help man, I have apparently purchased the red headed stepchild of Jeeps but I am happy to join the Jeep family if I am accepted.
Hah- welcome to the fold, my son
Carfax will usually only show dealership service- if a competent shade tree or small shop did it, it won't shop. If Billy Bob the jackarse did oil changes with a screwdriver and a hammer and an adjustable wrench, that won't show up either. Buying used is an act of trust in a complete stranger- best done with massive amounts of intel
I'd swap the plugs (STAY OEM! They work as well as anything else out there, and aren't $$), make sure they're gapped right, and check the plug wires. Take a spray bottle full of water, set it to a light mist. Spray it over the plug wires (not right on, but just over) with the engine RUNNING, and look for a light show. If you see arcing (you'll know if you have it! ), replace the wires as well- Mark W.
Thanks for the help fellas. Its under warranty and the dealership wrote up a We owe for some scratches and tire balance and things of that nature so I added this issue to the list, so hopefully its an easy fix.
I have a 2007 Unlimited X that has the "Stall" bug--started at about 32000 miles. Been to the dealership 4x no fix--they cannot replicate the problem, I finally got it on video, however, Chrysler still has no fix--good luck
