Angry Starting to hate owning a Chrysler vehicle

So my Jeep is 18 months old and it had now been in the shop 5 times...and it still is not fixed. Now, I finally got a call that the part for the transmission cooler tube recall has come in after 6 months of waiting. I told them that I wanted to bring it in on a Saturday for the repair and the dealer tells me that they cannot do that kind of work on a Saturday. With it being my only vehicle, I asked if they would pay for a rental car during the week, since this is a recall. They said that Chrysler does not pay for rental cars. So, after being in the shop 5 times already and the warning light is still coming on and I have to get a recalled part installed, it looks like I will be forced to take a day off of work to bring it in for a 6th time. I traded in an 11 year old Toyota Tacoma for the Jeep and the Toyota never went to the shop even once for anything! I wish Toyota built Jeeps! Sorry, end of rant.

Man, that really sucks!

Seems like the dealer should step up to the plate here. Might want to see if there is another dealer in the area.

I love my Wrangler(s), but I'd never have one as a DD/sole vehicle.

Edit, read this thread, maybe something in there can help you.

OP, your plight sounds so familiar to mine....

I traded my bulletproof 2004 F150, which I owned for almost nine flawless years, for my '12 Wrangler, which was the most glitch-laden POS (most electrical, the rest manual trans-related) I have ever owned. At the seven month mark with it I decided to give Chrysler one last shot.

Other than my coolant debacle, my '13 has been great. I love the Wrangler (I've had four after all) but I think this will be my last Chrysler product. Not sure if I'll roll the dice on keeping it after the warranty is up either, I guess it depends on what transpires.

Really a shame, since I love them.

We don't need it because we have several vehicles, but our insurance offers a rental reimbursement that was really cheap. Don't give up on the Jeep. I bought my wife a 14 MDX with every single option and it has had issues. IMO, you made the right move to a Jeep since I think Toyota makes the ugliest cars out there.

Good a place as any to jump in. Have owned (thinking) nine (9) Jeep vehicles and more Toyotas than I can remember.
The Jeeps included a (2) GC V8, Cherokee Limited, '87 Wrangler, 95' Wrangler, Two '03 Saharas, an '05 Rubicon and I just picked up my '14 Sahara (traded a 2012 4Runner Limited) had Two FjCruisers before the LE.
No problems with ANY of either make (lucky perhaps) anything mechanical can end up with problems. The LE was rusting underneath pretty badly (not happy).
Love being back in my true Love. They really do just make me smile.
The 4runner LE was a beautiful truck and probably would have run forever but..... Boring.
Was it ever just... boring.

I'm on my 5th Jeep, 3rd JK. All but the '99 Cherokee have had their issues. Worst of the bunch was my '13 JKUR. I had it one year to the day before it was flipped for a '14 JKUR. The '14 I've had for 3.5 weeks now and it spent yesterday and this am at the dealer. 430N needed an update and the front diff needed a new pinion seal. Jeep has 926km on it. And even with the assorted issues I've had on my various Jeeps, I can't see myself driving a different vehicle.

Don't get me wrong, I love having a Jeep, I just really with the quality was better. It would be different if these vehicles cost like $5,000 new. You would expect something to break on a cheap vehicle. But these new Wranglers can cost over $40,000! Luckily my wife is a occupational therapist in the school system and she is off for the summer so I am planning to drop the Jeep off after work next week and take her car to work the next day.

Honestly I think quality control in a lot of the auto manufacturers is lacking. People complained about the quality of the h2 and the h3. Owned both and no problems. Everyone raves about the Camry. I had one that I got rid of because it was nothing but problems. A friend of mine won a lemon suit on her 2012 VW jetta. I've even heard horror stories from people about the late 90s 4runners. I got over 400k out of the one I had.

I really think that when u purchase a vehicle, it's essentially a craps shoot. Owner experiences seem so random to me.

I think some dealers also do a lot better at pre-inspecting the vehicles they sell to ensure they're trouble free.

Obviously some problems won't come to fruition until some miles are put on it...

But like was mentioned, every car brand can have issues.

I guess what really chaps my butt is the fact that I have been in for repairs on the SAME problem 5 times now and it still is not fixed plus I have to get a recalled part installed. Luckily these repairs have not cost me anything yet.

In OH the dealer gets 3 chances to make things right and then it's Lemon time.

I feel your pain there. My '13 was in the neighborhood of 10 visits for the coolant issue alone between the end of February and the middle of June when I got my '14. Total trips to service was approx 15 in that time frame, and ironically it was in the service dept the day my '14 was delivered to the dealer.

In Louisiana, the dealer gets 4 chances. I just hate to get rid if it because I really like my Jeep despite the problems.

At this point I believe you could have a lemon. Or else the dealer doing the repairs is not competent

OP totally understand your frustration! At $40K there should not be these problems. I will also tell you I have had only one issue
(fuel injector defective in the first week of ownership) on my 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland so go figure lol. Having said that I have had two issues on my 2012 JKU, the uconnect mic and drivers side cylinder head. I had the repairs done at two different dealerships and received rental cars at both with no cost to me. Might want to push back on the dealer or speak to Chrysler on this.

Well, I am going to bring the Jeep back again to have the recalled part installed and give them another chance to fix the other issue. I will see where things go from there.

Definitely: 1 More chance and then start a Lemon Law case. They had their chance to make it right. That sucks and I feel for ya bro...I'm on #8 and never had any real problems with any of them. I cringe when I hear of problems like yours! Good luck with it, either way.

When you take it in mention that you will be looking into a Lemon claim.

I have had my 13 unlimited Sahara in for only about four water leaks, and have already won a lemon lawsuit and I'm getting a new vehicle. Should settle in about six weeks, I guess I'll be shopping for a 14 or 15. Sounds like you might have a case also.

Don't let the dealer know what your intentions are with regards to a lawsuit. They have no right or need to know. My lawyer just said keep taking it in for repairs and sending him the paperwork.

We own 2 Jeeps (2005, 2014), a Dodge Ram (2006), and I drive a Dodge Ram (2010) for work. Never had an issue with any of them. Guess I'm lucky.

The Jeep Wrangler is the money maker for them. They typically don't have incentives for them because we will buy them. I have always loved them and always will. When I bought my JKUR I saw all sorts of imperfections, but I still bought it. I don't know what it is, but I would not trade it for any other vehicle out there. I also love people that own Jeeps. Down to earth folks and good people.

I had a Taco for many years and it was one also the most reliable and functional vehicles I've owned, in addition to getting better MPG than my JK. However, it was flat out boring and characterless in comparison. At the time I kept the Taco as a DD so I could build up the JK with a stronger off road bias. In spite of my best efforts the Taco just became a semi-permanent obstacle in my driveway.

My JKs have been trouble free but every time I turn on the ignition on my 3.6 I sometimes subconsciously wonder if I will get dreadful code on that day.

Chrysler is not the only that does not provide rentals and loaners.

Cases like yours are not that uncommon. It seems like when you have 1-2 problems you get a stream of them. It makes me think the age old problems of assembly line startup and shutdown issues still exist because the units that are trouble free seem to be near 100% trouble free. That is something I would be willing be pay a few hundred extra dollars for: A secondary end-to-end detailed QC inspection and test with someone's name and signature attached.

My wife wanted a Charger... I put the kibosh on that one. I'll let her pick out anything she wants as long as its not a Chrylser. I'd rather pay an extra 10 grand for a fancier car and know I'm not getting a radiator full of goop or a Canbus nightmare.

Seriously 5x for the same problem? I'd be looking for a new dealer not a new vehicle. As for that recall, there is no rush for it to be done, but sounds like that dealer does not have a qualified tech on duty on weekends.

No vehicle is immune from problems, Toyota is no different. Did you guys not hear their last recall, or how about the throttle issues that killed many people. Considering the # of these JK/JKU produced the issues are quite few and far between.

Mine is 2008 (Daimler Chrysler) and I have had a couple very minor issues but my dealer looked after them quickly and properly the first time. Now at 170,000klm still running strong and quiet and I am still impressed where it can go.

To be fair about this, you knew that Chrysler doesn't offer free loaners when you bought your Jeep. If that's something that is important to you, it should have been part of the decision process way back when selecting a vehicle.

Hey neighbor! Right up the road from you in Gonzales. I'm planning on getting a 2015 beginning of next year, with that said I'm wondering about the dealer you have been dealing with.. Service after the sale is important, and we really only have a couple options down here to buy from; Ralph and Brian. So have they treated you good despite the on going problem? Im just curios if I needed to be persuaded to buy from one or the other.. But I do know anyone can handle warranty work.. Sorry to side track off your topic a bit, I was just wondering.
