steering wheel buttons/aftermarket deck

i bought a pioneer touch screen a few months back along with the adapter to allow retention of the steering wheel controls and i am far from stumped..

I havent the slightest clue as to which wires im supposed to be tapping into bc none of the wires on the harness (I bought the $90 canbus harness forget the brand) and there are no extra spots for the steering controls

anyone have any pointers? I am being a little vague i will post the exact part numbers when i have them in front of me

Start by telling us what the exact model of harness is that you bought.

I never use Axxess harnesses. I always use PAC-Audio harnesses. For the Jeep, it is plug and play for the SWI (Steering Wheel Integration). Plug in the harness and plug in the SWI module. No wires to cut. Sure it costs more but it is correct.

I tried an Axxess harness years ago in a previous vehicle. Every wire color was different than the standard color coding plus the pins were not correctly mounted in the harness. Junk. Sent it back and got the PAC-Audio version and loved it.

I used an AXXESS XSVI-6522-NAV harness with my 2013 JKU Sport without an amp and it was per-wired for their ASWC (steering wheel control) to plug right into it.

This is what I ordered and there was zero wire splicing. Not sure on the one you ordered as it says it only retains factory amp, not steering controls.

PAC RP4-CH11 Factory Integration Adapter

The only thing I had to do was program it for what buttons do what.

Edit:

From crutchfield

Another plus; once you've connected the appropriate PAC steering wheel audio control adapter for your new car stereo, the C2R-CHY4 adapter eliminates the need for the second PAC interface (SWI-CAN or SWI-CAN2) that's usually required for your vehicle, saving you some cash. Warranty: 1 year.

So I would just pick up the one I got, costs more, but all in one.

As Bacara says, you didn't get the SWC interface - that harness only connects you into the factory wiring for power, ground, speakers etc. I had my suspicions when you said it was $90, the RP4-CH11 (which is the CHY4 plus the SWC interface) is more like $150.

All is not lost. You can still add the SWC interface, the correct one will depend upon your model year and your head unit. Go to this link, input your vehicle details and all will be revealed:

The ASWC-1 is made by another manufacturer, Metra. I can't remember exactly how it wires but if I were you I'd stick with the PAC SWC controller to be on the safe side given your harness is made by PAC.

Not sure where you got head unit, but if from authorized dealer, the price is likely the same as crutchfield and you get 50% off the correct adapter. Throw old one on eBay to recover some money. Just a thought if you have any option to return HU.

It's made by Metra, Axxess is one of the Metra Electronics brands.

Like Bacara says, sell it on eBay. Unlike Bacara says, don't go near Crutchfield. They'll probably sell you the wrong thing and they'll almost certainly give you wrong advice. Just go onto the PAC site, figure out which SWI unit you need, and then buy it from Amazon.

Your wiring harness is PAC, so you probably want a PAC steering wheel controller. I can't think why you shouldn't be able to mix and match, but we do at least know for sure that if you get one from the same manufacturer it will work.

If you don't buy a full integration harness, I believe you'll have to tap factory wires. Don't cut them, just get some posi taps. I still think you are better off selling the two you have and buying the harness I got. Check what yours are selling for and how much eBay peeps are selling the all in one harness for.

If you know what you need from crutchfield they are a great place to buy stuff from, never had one issue in 8 years. Not sure what your situation is on headunit, but look into my idea if it can be returned as crutchfield gives you everything you need to install and a 50% off on harness.

I think you mid-understood what I was saying. If you bought headunit at bestbuy for example and could return it and repurchase on crutchfield for probably the same price, not pay tax and get a huge break on the correct harness. It was just another idea, but I understand dealing with just the harness situation is probably the easiest.
