Smile Stereo enthuesist in a new jeep.

Hey Gang,

Great forum, I hope to be a valuable contributor. Just got into a new 2012 wrangler(from a dodge ram) this is my third jeep, and am having some trouble with my stereo upgrade(since this is MY jeep and in no way the wife's!!). I need to know what everyone does about their head unit's security? I saw the posts, recommending the Ivault, then read 20 min worth of horrible reviews.(not to mention they dont make them for this year.) The obvious removable face wont work because its a flip out DVD. A 2 way pager viper alarm with proximity is getting installed. But there must be something more out there, right?

Well, glad to be here officially, and not just standing in the shadows searching for answers.

I think that the stock stereo, even the Nav units, are probably the best thing out there for security purposes. They need to be programmed by a dealer to work in another vehicle which makes them all but worthless for theft purposes. In fact, most factory head units are that way which is why there are very few OEM stereo thefts these days.

I love the Garmin 430. It is good enough to be OEM in Ferraris, it is good enough for a Wrangler. At the end of the day, a soft top, open top, or thin hardtop vehicle just isn't going to be a good platform for sound, especially once you get moving. You just want it loud enough.

Looks like you already have your HU. If you didn't, I would recommend a removable face HU. That's what I did.
