Still Torn Between a Rubi and a Sahara

There are two black 2012 6-speed Rubicon Unlimiteds with 703N due into the dealer next week and I am really pained over buying a Rubicon Unlimited versus a Sahara Unlimited. Being an obsessive car nut that I am...my gut is telling me to get the Rubicon. Even though I won't be rock climbing...for the long term enjoyment I keep going back to the Rubi. The short term side of me says get a Sahara since it will be mainly my DD.

Geez this is harder than I thought...

If your not really wheeling then get the Sahara. Is the Sahara cheaper? Yeah the Rubi looks better but if the Sahara is cheaper then get it if not get the Rubi.

Sahara is cheaper, will probably get better gas milage with shorter gears in stock consideration and plenty of them are wheeled. Why make it complicated?

i bought a 2007 Sahara off the showroom floor. One look at it and i was in lust. the dealer lifted it 2", put 16 rims and 32 in tires on it. I loved the look, but always hated in the back of my mind i didn't get the Rubicon. 5 years later, I got the Rubicon and ask myself why did i wait so long.
if you can swing it, get the Rubi.....or you'll always question it in the back of your mind.

I was just in the same position a couple of weeks ago. The Sahara was sitting right in front of me, had all the right equipment and was cheaper to boot. But...the Rubicon was only a few days away and that is what I really wanted. If I had gotten the Sahara I would have had the thought in the back of my mind every time I drove it that I had "settled" for the Sahara. Not Knocking the Sahara, just really wanted another Rubi. Now I jsut feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I drive the Jeep I really wanted.

If you knew nothing about there abilities you could tell the difference in the two jeeps. With zero knowledge (I have more than that) people can easily point out that the Rubi appears more aggressive. Mine is far from stock and I use it for the purpose it was built for.

Not sure if you were trying to be funny or what?

You tell em

The jeep it self is the same. My Tj had rubi rock rails, Moabs and MTR'S. a sticker would have made it look just like a Rubicon. The mechanical advantage is what really separates them. Any real JEEP fanatic could tell a fraud with a quick peek
underneath

If I had the money I would just get the Rubi, just because I believe in overkill. It is nice having factory lockers and sway bar disconnects.

they look they same if you get the colored fenders, save for the sahara sticker in front of the front doors or the rubicon sticker on its hood. that and the sahara has raised white outline tires and the rubicon has blackwalls. sahara is a bit cheaper i think less than $1,200-1,300 sticker. yes to the jeep knowledgeable the rubicon can be picked out from a sahara and has more ability when you leave the pavement, but to 99.8% of the people they wont tell the diff and if you not doing the more hardcore off roading you will never know the difference and the ride will be more comfortable(to most) in the sahara

I had asked myself the same question when I was getting ready to order my jeep. I know that some people like this, paint matched fenders and top but I love the look of the black fenders and top, not to mention that the Rubi looks differnt (Better). I guess that this only matters if you are purhasing any colour than black or the dark green. That said I had two choices, sport or Rubi. As far as I am concerend the decision was easy. I loved the look of the Rubi and I had the extra cash. I think if you are asking the question, deep inside you want the Rubi, If you dont have the extra cash on hand, save. On the positive side of taking the extra time to save the money, there maybe some insentives pop up that are not avalible yet. At least you know the jeep wont go up in price.
Good luck!!

i prefer the look of the colored roof and fenders and had they been available then i got my '11 sahara i may have got the rubi w/ colored roof and fenders just because of the extra off road ability, if i did tho the rubi sticker on the hood would have been gone real quik i think the huge sticker on the hood is a bit tacky.

Rubi stickers should only go on Rubi's...

Get what you want and what it the best fit for you...it is your cash.

With that said.....

If money isn't an issue...and you are torn. Get the Rubi....

If money IS an issue, and you know you won't be going off-road. Get the Sahara.

lets not diminish how capable the sport and sahara, i couldn't tell you exactly how much more capable the rubi but it cannot really be that much more, i am also guessing that w/ its different gearing that there may be some gas mileage consequences w/ the rubi also. IMO if i had a rubi it wouldnt have stickers on the hood, and if my wife didnt like them the sahara stickers would be off the sides of my mine but she feels they tie together the saddle interior to the outside... oh well if it makes/keeps her happy....it keeps my ears from hurting

If you are deciding on basis of roof and fender color than jeep might not be for you. The color is the last thing you should be looking at.
The Sierra is a great vehicle and very capable off road, but it's not close to the vehicle the Rubicon is. If you just plan on cruising the streets or back roads than a Sierra is great. Once you take a Rubicon off road, you'ld never go back to a Sierra. Even if the 'color' is more appealing.

i have not done a lot of off roading and when i did some it was in my '94 and '97 Grand Cherokees w/ the Up-Country suspension package on the Drummond Island Jamboree and saw stockers of all jeep varieties Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler ect... and all were capable. I have also been told that a Sport, Sahara would do just fine even doing the Rubicon trail Jamborees ect... i dont deny that the Rubicon will be more capable, but for Jamboree type off roading(not real extreme stuff) that any Wrangler will get you through it(maybe some different tires would be a help)

The only difference in the "look" between the Rubicon and Sport (X) is the tires and stickers. The tires are a quick and inexpensive swap. The stickers should never be changed. Other than that a great majority want a Rubicon without really knowing what it's all about.

Buy the Rubicon. Replace the Rubicon stickers with the Sahara and paint the fenders.

I had a white 2012 GC on order when I saw a 2012 white Unlimited Rubicon with colored roof and fenders at another dealer. Called my dealer and told them I changed my mind, they traded for the Rubicon I wanted and had it by high noon that day. Had them put on Sahara side steps and I had my jeep.

I agree and I guess I should have worded my responce a little clearer. The look I was refering to is with respect to the decal. As you say, everything else can be changed to suit your personality. I believe that Daggo66 makes the best argument in this thread, which model you decide to purchase is based on what you want to use it for, not the "look".
Cheers

Hogwash, who says you need a good reason to buy a rubicon over a Sahara?
Buy what you want , and call it a day.there are many Rubicons that never see large rocks, big deal.
If you like the rub better then buy it.

^ .......exactly any Jeep that comes with "Trail Rated" stamp should handle more than 99.5% of what most people will throw at it...... including pavement
