Stock 2012 Sahara w/ Toyo Open Country Mt's 275/75/18

Have been waiting on tires for over a year now... Ordered 285/75/18 but somehow the seller was advised to order me these instead... Was gonna return but these actually just fit in the stock spare location and do rub at a full turn... Just wanted to post if anyone had the same questions...

The only thing I'll point out is that those tires probably necessitate a new spare carrier. The reason being that weight, not size, is the determining factor. From Toyo's website, the Open Country M/T in your size weighs 66.1 lbs. That's more or less an even 20 lbs more per tire compared to the stock BFG KM and even more than that versus your Sahara's original fitment. In fact, your stock wheels and tires together were about 69 pounds - your tire alone weighs nearly that much now. Lastly, for perspective, a 35" BFG KM2 weighs 67.5 lbs (nearly the same as your Toyo) - on a 17" wheel, a 35" BFG KM2 quite possibly weighs LESS than what you're running right now.

Oh, the 285x75R18 are 35" tires...and, yes, even <ahem> beefier than what you are running now. You WILL want new wheels (or spacers) to run those if you go that route, you will want/need to trim the pinch seam depending on how often you and how hard you wheel and you will definitely need new hardware for the spare. Personally, I know the Open Country is a good tire....but, you could run, for example, a 37 inch BFG KM2 or GY MT/R on a 17 inch wheel for the same weight. Alternatively, you could run a GY MT/R w/ Kevlar in the same size for less weight. Lastly, at least on Tire Rack and DTD, a 37 inch tire on a 17 inch wheel is CHEAPER than a 35" tire on an 18 inch wheel.

The reason I mention this: if you're getting into new wheels, new spare carrier, bump stops/fenders and beefier axles anyway - why stop at 35? Might as well go big!

Looks good....if the rub bothers you go with some wheel spacers...you can go 1.25" don't have to go full 1.5"
that will get rid of your rub and widen the stance....

I'm waiting on my recently ordered 2013 JKU (black with your wheels) and I am seriously considering those tires, it looks awesome. How do you like them, hows the noise?

added spacers... but now instead of rubbing front sway bar at full lock it's hitting the corner of the skid plate...

looks like i'll either trim or lifting soon!!

For the OP - dj_johnnyfive

Did you find what DJL2 said below to be the case for you or have you not had any issues with the extra weight on the tailgate, hinges, or body panel?

I am looking into getting a set of five similarly heavy (if not a tad heavier) tires and was under the impression that this would only be a concern with tires larger than 33".

Also, judging from the phots, the spare just barely fit in the space between the rounded slot in the OEM bumper and the third brake light - was it a tight fit ? Does the spare mate well to the two bumpers positioned between the tailgate and the tire itself?

Check again, For these tires look more like 275/70-18 than 275/75..... My Brother and I each installed new Duratracs last week-end..... While the 285/70r17 look perfect on my 10A, the 275/70r18 filled my Brother's Sahara fender way too much to look good.. In fact any bigger wouldn't have fit on his tailgate..... We drove straight to his place and installed a Teraflex 2 inch leveling kit....
