Stock JKU Sport

How capable is a JKUr right out of the box? I would like to take my sport (3.73) out to play in Virginia, but want to know if i "have" to change out the tires and lift it first.

thoughts?

Very... The limiting items would be your tires and armor.

How can you say "very" when the tires...are limiting? What should stock SRAs (17") stay away from?

Well, what is your defintiion of capable?
What exactly are you trying to do?

Also, when you said Sport, we are not sure if you are talking Sport (29") or Sport S (32") wheels.

Capable =\= invincible, unstoppable, or unimprovable

You've got great ground clearance for a stock vehicle, a great 4wd system with a solidly low gear ratio, a great brake locking differential, you can remove your doors and top for great visibility, and solid axles with lots of room to articulate.

Those are offroad benefits pretty much no other mass manufactured vehicle in the US offers.

Tires aren't so great for offroad use . . . so will be more likely to encounter traction or tire damage problems than a similarly equipped vehicle with sturdier mud tires. No armor . . . so damage to body damage or undercarriage is more likely than a similarly equipped vehicle with armor.

There are also more things you could do to go to the "next level" of offroad performance. Lifting for greater clearance and locking differentials come to mind.

Also keep in mind that an idiot can break anything. There is no amount of stock equipment you can have or modification that you can do that will mean (a) you can easily drive over absolutely any obstacle and (b) it's impossible to break or damage.

The first sentence and the second sentence aren't saying the same thing. Basic trails and the like? Sure, of course. Find some locals and go.

But ANY ride ANYwhere in all of northern Virginia? Hell if I know. I'm sure there's plenty that even highly modded rigs struggle to handle.
