Stranded: 2007 JK won't start

I'm having a problem starting my jeep after it ran fine this morning. Jeep is fine for years (and has a year old battery) then out of nowhere today everything lights up as I turn the key but will not fire, turnover, nothing. Air, lights, radio, all that works.

I read some things on the IOD fuse issue and range sensor with the shifter and some said quick fixes to pull/replace fuse or shift tranny to neutral.

I'll try pulling fuses - which #s do I need to pull? I pulled #11 and replaced after a minute with no luck.

And I have an automatic transmission. Dumb question... how can I shift the auto into neutral when it is normally locked until the engine starts? I tried forcing it but it just won't budge even with key all the way on and brake pressed.

I wanted to at least see if the shift to neutral and start option would work. I need to get back on the road.

When you attempt to start the Jeep and get no start simply leave the key in the ON position, then move the gear shifter into N and back up to P. The Jeep should start when in either position. Some people have said they've had to rock the Jeep to get it to start but I haven't had to go that far.

This is a pretty common problem. I was reading through some other stuff on another forum and they were reporting that beefing up the ground cable from the battery was helping some people.

thanks... I tried the shifting thing with no luck. ended up getting a tow to the dealership. battery checks out ok/fully charged. Not sure... guess I'll let the dealer figure it out. Very frustrating for sure.

Update: dealer actually found that the shifter cable broke/disconnected... and that was causing the problem of not starting or turning over.

Crazy.

LOL from bad to worst... today was on freeway an hour from home and instantly heard a knocking at 60+ mph. it got worse within seconds. pulled over, oil is fine. started back up and VERY LOUD knocking at idle, down deep in motor.

jeep dealership was a few miles away luckily but they think the engine is done. they need several days just to dive in and diagnose.

What the hell is going on... only has 55k miles on her.
