Angry Stuck in Kabul

Was supposed to fly out today, but bad weather moved in this morning; therefore the choppers were grounded. To top it all off; some jerk blew himself up at the entry control point during my nap! Base loud speaker alerted everyone to take cover . Evidently my base wasn't the only one hit by suicide bomber. There were 4 total today. I'm anxious to hit the trails already! Fingers crossed for tomorrow..

That sucks man. I'm at Bagram right now... I didn't hear any Giant voices last night telling us to take cover.
Be safe. I'm jealous you're going home! Happy Trails!

I've been weathered out plenty of times. Just avoid saying things like "all weather A/C, fair weather pilot" down at the pax terminal =). They get touchy about that sort of thing.

Funny thing about suicide bombers...never the most considerate folks. I had one try to blow my truck up once...

This is only R&R for me. Gotta do 5 more months, making my time away from Bessie (my Jeep) and the wife and kids 14 months. Tomorrow supposed to clear up. I've got groceries (MODS) waiting at home for me to put on. Plus the 2.5 AEV lift I'm having done. I'm just anxious.
Oh, whats as bad as an S.B? The French out on the road. They totaled my hummer from the left rear up! My pucker factor went red hot. They hit me with some armored semi looking truck..

The mad max looking ones? Those are sweet rides! It will be hard but dont do like I did and spend too much time wrenching/wheeling. Your family needs you more than your Jeep does.

Or make it a family event and get the best of both worlds!

When I was going thru JRTC at Polk, we were told that Hummers were obsolete and everyone drove MTV's. Low and behold I get here and my group of Combat advisors are the only ones using the Hummer. Now they want to switch us over the MTV and I don't want to. Kinda love them. Out of the 7 signed over to me, only 3 work right.

Enjoy the time off. Just mind OPSEC. Might not be wise to post your exact location on the internet.

I was there last winter contracting with a company during that crazy snow storm. Missed my leave because of it, but at least they paid me triple time.

I wish there were words I could say but I've been there, nothing really helps but leaving, so I hope it clears up for you soon, be safe.

Camp Phoenix isn't too far from where I'm at on Bagram. I'm not on the main part though... just a little small camp on the side of it. And it is snowing this evening, quite a bit. I'm enjoying it. I have about 3.5 months left before I go home. I was out here for a year plus about 2-3 months of training before hand, so by the time I get home about 15 months. Good times.

Good luck, and enjoy Christmas!

For the record, Shannon is NOT a bad place for a layover. After my first tour, my entire infantry company took over a bar there for several hours. The Guinness and Irish car bombs were flowing, and every one of us bought bags full of whiskey and Scotch from the duty-free store. Needless to say, it was VERY loud for the first hour of the flight afterwards, and then very quiet for the rest... Someone even puked on the SGM! We were certainly quite a sight for our families when we deplaned at Pope AFB -- 200 hungover fools... lol, good times!

Stay safe brothers...

SIL has been home for 2 weeks. Heading back later this week. Trying to catch up on the 9 months he was away from his now 1 year daughter.

Thanks for your service. Sometimes people lose sight of the ripple effect deployment has.

Merry Christmas.

Be safe, enjoy Christmas with the family and take the MATV. Much more protection than a Humvee.

Looks like I got out just in the nick of time. I took the freedom bird out of Bagram on Saturday. (I'll be picking up my 2012 JK this week!!)

As far as getting stranded for weather, I feel for ya! Prior to my current position, I used to fly the STOL birds all around. I absolutely hated when we had to sit around all day waiting for the weather to clear. However, getting folks started on their R&R was one of the better rewards. Folks were always happy on those flights!!
