Stuck on a stump$$$

Backed over a stump in the yard, not very large, but large enough, I guess. Anyhow, what did I break? Guessing it is part of the vapor recovery system, black PLASTIC and a white PLASTIC cover with a hose coming from the gas filler. Little pieces of charcoal dumped out, the black PLASTIC and white PLASTIC is broke. A wire plug is above the white PLASTIC and seems intact. This looks expensive. Feed back, anyone?

sounds like evap canister. won't be cheap. probably a few hundred smackers, depending on if it comes with the purge valve attached and all.

It sound like your evap canister.. Those are located in the worst locations and generally tend to be knocked off when wheeling even on state trails..

Well, that really bites, was not much of a stump. No idiot lights on dash, so any rush to get this done? And thanks for the quick replies.

Wow, I am thinking I should have left the jeep in the drive way and took the Silverado into the back yard. That does not say much for the JK, does it.

Its the only part of the jeep that they have not taken into account when designing I guess.. I did some trails and also went to the turtle ridge orv park. The park had trails that I was sure I would have lost my evap can but I didnt.. Its just about knowing where it is and keeping track of where the problem spots are..

Well, the canister is junk now, and I will keep it in mind for now on. I see online how many skid plates are offered for it. Learn from mistakes, heh? Two more questions about this. Is it a pretty straight forward job to replace this? I did not look much beyond the damage, but would rather replace it myself if it is a simple job. Other questions, can I drive it as is till I get the replacement? The nearest dealership is 20 miles away, so jest there and back is not a small ride. Thanks for the feed back.

Lots of JK owners are relocating them.

Thanks for the help. Jeep Wrangler to play in woods, $20K+; Winch to skid logs and get outta an occasional snow banks, $450; Help from this forum, PRICELESS!

In my online search for the evac canister I did see not only skid plates, but the relocation kits. I will check both out.

Well this thread helped me decide what my first mod is going to be and that's a skid plate for evap canister !

Will putting on a skid plate to the evap canister in any way void your warranty and will the dealer give me a hard time because it's on there if a problem arises ?

Nope, some dealers will use any excuse to put a hold on warranty work, but

This Skid Row unit will only help you out and probably get a congrad. by the dealer, on your next trip for anything--

I'd have to say, "Good Choice!" I am pretty sure this will be my NEXT mod, which it was the first.

Has anyone reading this used a relocation kit? If so, where does it move it to? A skid plate would be good, but more clearance would be nice, too.

JIMBO, do you have the Skid Row plate? Several companies pop up when I did a internet search, seems like every one claims to make the best, but that should not surprise me

Yea, I got it cause of the size/powdercoatblack/strong mount and the angle for sliding over rocks !!

I got mine from 4wheelparts.com and the Pt# SFKJP-5007 $110 bucks, kinda expensive, but I think the worryless, is worthit--I won't relocate mine, thats asking for trouble !!

Good luck

Yes, thanks, I don't plan on any hardcore off road, so relocating will be overkill in my case. I have not gotten any prices on a replacement evap canister, but I am guessing it is more than a coulple of skid plates

When my wife and I go "out" fishing/camping, we seem to run into-things

Last summer we found a neat "outta the way" place to camp, but I needed lockers and 4lo and rekindle some OLD techniques for climbing "SHALE"

Being careful of sidewalls is VERY IMPORTANT !
