Stupid winch question

As I am still a noob I hope this question isn't too stupid. I bought an aries 15500 bumper. What do I have to do to put a winch on it. Was thinking welding a plate to the frame behind the bumper? But the guy at the custom shop said it would rip right off? Any help would be amazing since I was cheap and didn't buy one that was winch ready.

If It's welded right it will not "rip right off"

Not sure how your jeep differed from older ones honestly, but on both my CJ and YJ I just bought a universal winch plate that bolted directly to frame. Could also be welded for added strength and required no mods to bumper. They mounting plate isn't that expensive either. I think the one for my YJ was maybe $70. I'll try and get some pictures of it for you so you can see if it would work for you

Ok thanks. That's what I thought. I should add that this shop is more of a street racing custom shop. Not a four wheel customer shop so it may be out of their area and he just guessed.

Just want to make sure that the $40 HF plate would work here. I know it says universal but I've learned that lesson

No. I was wondering if the plate would fit behind the bumper. I wouldn't put it on my light mounts. Even I'm not that stupid.

Ok, got you a couple of pictures and some measurements this morning while drinking my coffee. The plate I have is 34" long by 7 3/4" total depth. The mounting hole area is 5". The plate has to sit 2 1/2" out from body so winch isn't into grill (at least with mine but would imagine this to be fairly true across all) Measurements should make more sense with pictures below. Hope this helps

I don't think you could put a winch on that bumper, on a JK (2007 and newer Wrangler) you need to attach to the front of the frame, not the top like you do on CJ's, YJ's and TJ's because of the way the frame is designed (the crumple zones in the front rails). If you can get a plate that mounts between the bumper and frame attachments then that would be OK, but don't weld to that bumper, it's not meant to take the load of winch, you could seriously hurt yourself or someone else.

Thank you. Do you think this would be an adequate mount?

With some modification that might work, but it won't bolt onto the JK as is, as it needs to attach through the front of the frame rails not the top. Warn, as well as others sell a nice one for the stock bumper. A 30 second search should give you lots of results.
