Stupid Yahoo Article

There was an article on yahoo.com about the 5 worst cars on the road today, and the wrangler unlimited is included in this for "Consumer worst value, worst cars, and least reliable"...i guess the author of this article drives a hummer? i disagree with that entirely, they dont give a description and i hate these articles but i just am not sure why the wrangler is listed there

Consumer Reports also gave it a thumbs down...

The latest Consumers Reports Annual Auto Issue also said that the Wrangler was the least reliable vehicle. Our 2007 Unlimited had three recalls, but other than that I wonder what things go wrong with some wranglers. The article didn't mention specifics. This is our fourth Wrangler and we like the changes. We have heard that the interior was redone in the new models. We wonder what they have changed?

Yup. Some sports cars depreciate about 20-25% once you drive em off the lot.

If Jeeps are so unreliable then why do so many mailmen or mailwomen drive them

That's why they go postal all the time and shoot each other, then themselves. It's probably from driving them unreliable jeeps everyday!

All vehicles have issues-my TJ has been fairly trouble free-not knocking JK?JKUs have never had one. I wonder though how much of the complaining is the "soccer moms/yuppie/mall crawlers"? Don't get me wrong I am no big "off-roader" but still question the validity of these "reports", with out weighing in the persons experience of vehicle ownership.

Example-Friend of mine got a new car every 2 through FMC because of their job. Thought it would be "funny" to let their kids fill out the surveys each time they came. He felt, "they don't matter anyway."

What do the owners/drivers/friends of yours say about their JK/JKU? That to me is a better judge of a vehicle.

Consumer reports is a very poor evaluator of automobiles.I don't bother reading anything they have to say about cars in general.

They should stick with dish washers, vacums and DVD players. I hear Sony makes a good one. lol

So, what you are saying is that a review written by mallcrawlers for mallcrawlers doesn't like jeeps.

Throwing stones when they live in a glass house. but who wouldnt if the compitian was getting 10 G's for sometihng with 100K miles on it.

To be one of the worst, I have a lot of fun driving mine not to mention everywhere I go, people stop and look (drool) at my worst. I think the problem is, it isn't a car. It's a Jeep

My YJ is on the road today.. JKU voted one of the worst.. YJ > JKU
WIN!!

I'd rather ask a jeep owner what they think of their jeep than some dude who got to drive one for a few days.. forget stupid articles like this, they probably didn't put it through a real test.. like offroading

I am no soccer mom by any means, I got the JKU because I care for my elderly mom and we needed more room. Otherwise I would have gotten the JK. With that being said. I LOVE MY JEEP. The forst JKU I had only for a month before I traded it in on the one I have now. It had like 4 recalls and a few other issues and I was without a vehicle for too long with all the visits to the shop. It was worth it to me to lose 800 bucks on the trade and have one with out recalls. The 2010 JKU Mountain has had one recall and it was in the shop a total of 1.5 hours. THAT'S IT! They fixed the K15 brake issue and tightened the exhaust shield. I am back on the road with no issues.

Mom loves the JKU as it sits up higher and she feels safer. I had an H3 before, and I really liked it a lot. (sorry all you Hummer haters) it is really a nice ride, but it was just too closed in for me. If it were a convertible Hummer, I probably would have kept it.

The JKU has made it possible for me to own a Jeep and still care for my mom. I get the Jeep I want and the space I desperately need. The only thing ai wish were different is the steering radius. It does not match that of the Jeeps I am use to driving. Other than that. I cant say anything bad about the JKU.

I have owned 7 Wranglers and I have loved them all. I am glad the JKU was available so I can still love my Jeep and do what is right for my mom too!

Oh and I am a 43 year old man and my mom is 73.. we both love the JKU

I got a JKU for two reasons.
Storage of luggage and people while I travel. And because I plan to keep this jeep for many years to come and I plan to have my own family one day.

It's a jeep and if you use it as one, it will get beat up and problems will arise... what are they comparing it to? A civic or something stupid? What can they possibly compare a jeep to? Nothing. Thus, its as reliable as it needs to be for its own class. Consumer reports is written by idiots in my opinion.

Don't forget that they factor in cost and fuel mileage. The JKU's aren't cheap to buy, poor fuel mileage, and an anemic engine to boot. It all adds up, and Jeep has had a lot of issues with their 4-speed transmissions in the TJ's and the 6-speed manuals in the new Jeeps. I have plenty of friends who've owned jeeps and had nothing but issues, either transmission issues, poor wiring or even some engine issues in the Tj's and JK's. Now the 01TJ has been great and no issues overall, some years did have some poor quality components.

Cool

OK....granted there's a few peculiarities....like the JK ride having handling and a ride showing it's DNA arising from a praternatural mating between a riding lawn tractor and a rocking horse. Still, it handles and rides better than the fleet of 4x4 pickups I've had over the past 40 years.

In my first 5000 miles, I have consistently averaged over 22 mpg.
Part of that comes from my conservative driving style, and part from where I live. Very little driving is in city traffic for me. If I were overwhelmed by the need to max out my mpg and wasn't concerned about having a little fun in my life, I'd get a mall crawler....no, I guess I really wouldn't.

And IMHO the 'power' issue is overblown as well as the handling. If you are content to following normal speed limits there is no issue. And how many V6 flying bricks are capable of grinding past the big rigs on a long uphill? I just finished an 1100 mile road trip thru the Oregon Outback and long stretch of mountain passes without one issue. Thru high wind, incredible drenching downpouring monsoon rain, and about 100 miles of snow pack requiring 4H. I didn't seen any mall crawlers out there in that dismal terrain touting the advantages of their Civic/ect.....except going thru Bend, which has a high concentration of malls and other vehicular twits.

I did have a sudden urgent stopping situation, where I came around a corner and a flagman was standing in the middle of the road. I did have to apply the brakes fully and suddenly. It was soothing the feel how rapidly it did stop, and pulled over so the passenger tires were on the gravel shoulder, something which I *think* was the ASB cutting in, made a pleasing and rapid decrease in my forward motion.

The flagger looked a bit shaken up. I told him if he didn't like my driving to stay off the sidewalk.....HAR!!!

These motoring mavens that are thrilled with their own astute evaluation of all things vehicular are simply another example of
having a job above your competency level.

Almost all the articles on yahoo are crap. Besides, all of those people at yahoo, google, microsoft etc. are smug little prius drivers. They hate Jeeps or any other car with a "big carbon footprint." Believe me I know--I park next to them every day!

It has to do with ideology, not reality.
