Getting my stereo installed in my 2017 Hard Rock tomorrow and need to figure out where to put my sub(s). Any pics of yours would be great!

We have an old Playmate cooler at the house I've been saving just for this. Thinking about adding an 8 or 10" subwoofer in my wife's Jeep, and mask it with the cooler for stealth purposes. Haven't had time for much progress, other than disassembling the cooler.

anyone got pic's of sub placement in a 2 door with the back seat still in? I have been debating on doing what OP is doing, but I have a 2015 2 door and its difficult as i don't want to loose the little bit of cargo space I have.

I put mine under the driver seat in a custom made box and put the amp under the passenger seat
Hmmmm.... maybe I should put one of those under my wife's seat.:bop:

I vote for "FILL THE TRUNK"! Lol ;)

(I know mine is just a little 2door)

If I didn't have the one in the floor, I'd lean towards the one that fits above the wheel well. Having had boxes of various shapes and sizes over the years - It's a PIA to have one that takes up cargo space IMO.

The box is divided into 4 quadrants, 1 for each speaker. That's what this picture was supposed to show. That's not the bottom of the box in the picture. At the bottom of the box is a pair of 12in down firing subs. I also have other things going on besides the separate quadrants, so the speakers are all working together and not canceling each other out. Things like phase reversal between the 6x9's and subs and delay adjustments to time align them.....I have that type of technology capability built into my system. ;)

You make a good point about the disconnect concern, in having a potential hot wire exposed and I originally had that concern as well but I typically just pull out the black Gorilla tape and wrap it around the exposed metal connections when it's disconnected to protect against that situation.

I needed a 3 wire connection for Ignition, Ground, and BATT, thus the reason I used a 3-way Welding connector and socket. I also decided if the connector handles enough power for welding, it's likely good enough for powering an audio system. ;) That's what it's really all about is the "Power/Wattage" capability of the connectors anyways.

Like you said, your connectors, although only having 2 connections which really didn't meet what I was after, are able to handle 125A but is likely rated at an automotive level voltage.

VOLTS x CURRENT=POWER (WATTS)

12V x 125A= 1500 Watts
220V x 50A= 11,000 Watts

So with a connector capable of handling 11K Watts, I think I'm good and it cost a lot less than the connectors you have shown. ;)

Here is my set up. I used the storage bin so I could still use the space.

How's the sound? It's a good location for putting a speaker to conserve on space, but for a 10in sub like you have, they usually require 1.25 cubic feet or larger of cabinet air space to operate efficiently. That's also a key reason why the sound bar speakers and the front lower dash speakers aren't always that great sounding. There just isn't enough air cabinet for those speaker locations to allow the speakers to operate efficiently.

For that same reason, I'm not a big fan of those under the seat speaker cabinets.

I REALLY want to have a killer sound system in my jeep, I just can't bring myself to do a box, when we go camping etc I run out of room as soon as I load the alcohol. Bass is important to an extent, but I really want a nice, full, clear sound like from boat speakers or something.

Buy some quick disconnects and just remove it before you go camping. That's what I do if I really need the extra space.

I am in the middle of finishing my box. I built a 2.5 cubic ft ported box for a single 12" Sundown. It follows the contour of the wheel well which gives me enough space to fit my Grizzly in between.

Now that I've listened to it enough to be happy with it, I'm going to take it back out and resin it and paint it for real (just black rattle can on it now so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb to thieves)

It will have 2 brackets on top that bolt it down where the hard top fastens. It is the same height as the top of the Jeep tub.

I would recommend the under seat box from Mattk11 if possible. The install is a bit involved, but can easily be one in a weekend and the bass result is outstanding. Note you will have to cut a couple brackets and some carpet, but all of this is either under the seat or under the box so everything still looks clean. Matt will provide a ton of support along the way as well. Pretty happy with the way mine turned out, but still need to do a little tuning.

I've been thinking about this. What about one of these trunks built into the back, lid that opens for storage, but the end facing the seats is partitioned off and a couple of killer 6x9's mounted facing the seats? Less cubic inches of space required for the sub to breathe properly and still potentially great acoustics. Just spitballing.
