Subwoofer Security

I just purchased a 2010 2dr, and picked up the Kicker stage III speaker package with my financing. The subwoofer is clamped to the rings behind the back seat, and its good and sturdy, but it would be a big target if I ever thought about taking the top off.

Has anyone rigged a lock for the subwoofer?

To be perfectly honest, it's just as easy a target with the top on. Try a Tuffy security box.

Got any pictures of where exactly it's mounted? I wonder if a Bestop Instatrunk will fit with your setup. The Tuffy Security Deck is nice, but on the 2-door it requires the rear seat to be removed.

Thanks, I didn't realize how insecure the wrangler is till I wen to the Tuffy website. I didn't find anything to lock down the subwoofer except for the security deck, but if you have to take the back seat out, thats a deal breaker. I did pick up some door hinge locks, and I'm looking for something to lock the hood to keep my battery from getting stolen.

The instatrunk looks like it could work. Thanks for the tip.

Jeep + Security = No

If you bolt it down with screws that have an odd drive (like squares or triangles, you see them a lot on public utility stuff) it might help. Most thieves don't carry those one off specialty tools.

Put some CDC stickers on it and label it "infectious disease samples" with the standard biohazard label.

I did quite a bit of cross-country motorcycling when I was young with easy-to-steal cases on the bike labeled "human tissue samples" and those biohazard stickers. Never had anybody disturb my stuff.

I have a 8" sub enclosure that I have strapped to the "car seat" strap behind the back seat as well. With my smoked windows, I can't see it in there but now I changed out to the clear windows and the advertising on the sub enclosure is clear as day so I covered it with a black towel and all is good again. With the top down, the sub is actually wedged under the top and hidden from view. If you remove the top then that is a different story. Nobody knows you have a sub there unless you have it blaring when you park. You could run a cable lock through it somehow and attach it to the Jeep.

Tuffy Boxes seem kind of pricey considering the items going in them are probably worth less than the box itself. Might try the bestop underseat security box.

Anyone have experience with both? They both use 16 gauge metal? what makes Tuffy twice the price?

This is why we buy insurance........... And don't worry about low lifes taking our crap. Just don't leave anything of value in the Jeep, and go about living your life.
