Summer Top

Hi, all. I have a hard top 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. Getting ready for summer, and I want to get a top that will keep the sun/rain off of me and my passengers but give me the open-air feel. I don't have a garage, so it would have to be something waterproof. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking to spend less than $300, if possible.

I found this Pavement Ends package that looks like exactly what I need:
Pavement Ends™ Sun Cap Plus, Cab Curtain & Cargo Cover Combo for 07-14 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec

Does anyone have this top and, if so, how has it worked for you?

Thanks in advance!

I just bought the Qtech Bikini top plus, which covers both front and rear seats of my 2012 JKU and the QTech front and rear floor liners.i also ripped out all of my carpet, so if I get caught in the rain It won't bother me much. Unplug the drains and air dry!!

I would second the bikini top. I would get one but with my dogs getting their first taste of riding in a wrangler..i wanna keep them in the vehicle / not freak them out with the openness..but I definetly second the bikini top.

Just took the hardtop off yesterday and put on exactly what you asked about. Love it! Even had some rain here today and was surprised to find very little had made its way in. Best purchase yet for me

Thanks for all the feedback! Very helpful. I think I'm going to go ahead and order the Pavement Ends package.

I would go with the Bestop Cable Bikini Top. They will eliminate the most flapping while at highway speeds. As far as the windjammer and duster, Bestop has good options there too. Let me know if you see anything you're interested in and I can get you a quote!

You had the Pavement Ends Sun Cap Plus top or some different top?

So assuming your top did not have door surrounds, how big was the gap between the top and the upper door? I assume this is where the rain got in. I'm considering this setup and while I don't expect this gap to be air tight I don't want a waterfall running down the inside of the doors if I happen to get caught in the rain.

Thanks

It's the PE sun cap plus and you're correct that there's no surrounds. The gap is less than half an inch but ironically that wasn't where rain was getting in. It was more the opening between the back door and the windstopper behind the seat. And even then we're talking a few rain drops at most.

We had a bigger rain storm today with heavier rain and I was driving right thru it with virtually the same result.

As for flapping due to wind, I haven't had any issue with it. Honestly, minimal flapping at best. I would definitely suggest letting to top sit opened in the sun as the install guide suggests. It lets the fabric relax and gives you the chance to get a real tight fit.

Still thrilled with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a summer top.

Awesome exactly the type of info I was looking for. Thanks for the quick reply. Now to research the difference between the PE and bestop brand names. I know both are made by bestop but supposedly they use different materials?? If this was a US vs China manufacturing decision I would get the bestop brand but I'm not sure that's even the case anymore?
