Sunrider Mode

I tried to put my 2013 JK (Sport S) in sunrider mode for the first time yesterday. Getting it to that point wasn't a problem, but it didn't want to stay there. The back started caving in like it would if you were taking the whole top off... Which is what I ended up having to do. What am I missing? How do I get it to stay up? I watched a video that said there are velcro straps to secure it, but my Jeep didn't come with any velcro straps. Do I need those?

There are 2 little clips on the soft top that have to be secure so the top doesn't fold down.Just behind the spot where the top fold for the sunrider. One on each side.

You don't need the Velcro straps.

Make sure the little tabs above the doors are latched and stay latched.
You only have to release the windshield clamps. There is a sliding mechanism over the door that lets the front panel fold in half.

Sorry, my hard top is still on so I don't have any pics.

if i accidently release the little tabs above the doors and make the back cave in, i have to completely lower the top and put it back up to fix it.

Are you sure you have a sunrider? The little tabs above the doors are the part that makes it work.

Oh and you have to remove or otherwise open the back window if you do more than 45 or the top can be damaged. According to Jeep anyhow.

Mine works fine. I just release the two latches by the sunvisor and then from the inside just slightly push up in the middle by the windshield and it folds straight up and back. Then I fasten with the velcro straps and that's it.

And I don't unlatch the two side clips. I'm thinking maybe the guy's clips are unlatched and that's why the whole thing is folding back.

I do have a question tho: Does it hurt anything to keep the back window zipped up when riding in this mode down the interstate with just your front windows rolled down and the sun rider top flipped open?

I wasn't sure if all that air was pushing against the back zipped up (closed) window and it would be hurting it.

Jeep claims it'll damage the top if you drive with the sunrider open and the back window open. I wouldn't risk it. If its warm enough to have the sunrider open its warm enough to roll the back window up!

This guy's side clips are clearly unlatched. Sometimes they don't always latch themselves when you put the top up.
