Trying to install my new soft top on my Wrangler Unlimited. I can't seem to connect the latches in the front of the jeep. I know a new top needs to stretch, but I am not sure how to do it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Make sure the rear sail panels and sides are not tucked into the tub then extend the two latches at the front of the soft top almost straight (they do straighten out) and bring the top forward enough so the latches can catch , but don't close them yet just leave them hooked . Once caught you can tuck the rear sail panels into the tub then sides. After this you can close the latches to their locked position. Now install windows. Remember the side windows almost roll around 90 degrees into the door surrounds if installed correctly. We get many here that don't do that the first time and then complain their windows are almost hanging off after driving at speed.

^^^ I just installed the standard fabric soft top for the first time and this is how you do it. It does need to stretch but it you remove the sail panels from the tub it makes connecting the front latches pretty easy. Then stretch the sail panels back into place.

Also the latches that go into the header clips are a bit odd. You have to seperate (for lack of a better word) the two pieces. The part you push on starts as far away from the windshield as possible while you hook the latch itself into the clip. Once into the clip you should then be able to swing the handle towards the windshield to secure. If you want I can post a pic later. If that is the issue.

And yea, there is some effort there. But I've never had the need to undo anything. Course maybe I should have....lol...

I've had my jeep about 2 weeks and the premium soft top is all I got.

The sails are the parts of the top that attach to the back corners of the jeep. The tub is the back of the jeep (kinda like a truck bed).

Get someone to pull the front bar of the top forward while you get one latch hooked. It's pretty difficult the first time.

In the spring, I plan on getting the premium top. Nothing wrong with my top I have now, I just want a better fabric that looks better on my Jeep, plus I want tinted windows. In multiple threads on here, many people say that the very beginning is frustrating and to just let it sit in the sun to stretch is best. The best Jeep advice comes from this forum.
