I have a lava jacket for me and my wife. They do help too. We have a winter color run we do with the top off and that jacket is awesome for that. The J/K's heater is a blast furnace so in the spring when it gets a little cool we just crank the heater with the top off and it is usually enough. Its a Jeep!
I have the SWS too, and it does help with warmth. If I have full doors on, then I roll up the windows, crank the heat, and turn on the heat seaters and I stay warm well into the fall!
I ran a bikini top on my YJ 8 months out of the year here in MI. My buddy does the same in his LJ. I prefer a solid top for the rain protection, no specific recommendations.
I've been going back and forth about getting a sun shade but so far I'm pretty content with the sunrider convenience in stagecoach mode (super quick to close up for those cool evenings and/or rain). Probably won't make it through the summer without adding a sunshade anyway - they're not too expensive and I do like the colors.
I bought the American flag Koolbreez top for mine. Works pretty well. Only bummer is you have to take it off when you put the top on, it only takes a minute to take off. Some people modify theirs with grommets like the sws.
