Supertop Installation - Bow Mount Brackets

Attempted to install a Supertop this weekend on our 2011 JK 2dr. Didn't get far. The factory 3pc Freedom Top came off in about 5 minutes and I was ready to install the soft top. That was Step 1 of the Bestop instructions.
Step 2: Install side bow brackets. Piece of cake.
Step 3: Install fender washer on Bow Mount Bracket, both sides. Piece of cake.
Step 4: Install Bow Mount Brackets. Screeching halt. Illustration shows the bracket attaching to the belt rail with the furnished 5/16-18 screw and tapping plate. The belt rail already has captive plates to secure the Freedom Top, and since this is a JK they are METRIC.

I put the Freedom Top back on. After much thought, is it as simple as just using the metric screws that were removed with the Freedom Top and the existing captive nuts? The side slot on the Bow Mount Bracket rubbed against the padding under the bed rail and didn't seem to want to let the Bow Mount Bracket line up with the existing slots/nuts. The instructions don't mention anything about possible interference. Many possible solutions, but probably only one correct solution. What is it?

According to my invoice, I have a Bestop 54716-35. Illustrations and instructions appear to match what I have, but the Bow Mount Bracket just doesn't want to install per the instructions.

TIA for your help!

I have to admit that I've never done this install on a JK. CJ, yes, TJ yes. JK, no.

Hello, I'm new to the forums, but just installed a supertop on my 2010 2 door last week. It was a bit of a pain, but it turned out well. I used the factory bolts and captive nuts on the rail, just had to push them forward as far as they would go to make it mate up with the door surrounds. The only other advice I would add is when you attach the fabric across the header, just make sure you put something under it like a piece of cardboard/rug because I scuffed the top a little bit on my garage floor while putting in the screws. Hope this helps!

i just installed my soft top today on a 2011 wrangler 2 door. ill tell you the instructions suck really bad. i dont think ive ever seen such bad instructions to do something. the top i got was ordered from the jeep dealership the instructions said mopar on them so its factory. it came with all the screws i needed. i got it all together and it doesnt seem to want to close very easy. im actually having a hard time getting it to close. going to garage it and put it out in the sun tomorrow. does anyone know it that is normal or is something wrong. and yes if anyone puts one together make sure you put stuff down on the floor a blanket or cardboard will work if you dont it will scratch and scuff the top and rails.
