Superwinch LP8500 on Mopar Offroad Bumper

My dealer is installing a Mopar offroad bumper on my 2011 JK. I haven't received the Superwinch LP8500 I ordered yet. Question is, according to the installation guide, it is required to mount the winch on the bumper before the bumper is installed. Is this true? Thanks

I have that combo on a 2010, and installed the winch without removing the bumper. Plenty of room. Not sure whether much was changed for 2011.

I find it much easier to mount the winch to the bumper before installing the bumper to the Jeep. But it can be done with the bumper in place. Its just that some of them you have to have small hands to tighten the winch mounting bolts.

Usually bumpers that dont require winch mounting plates are a PITA to install a winch if the bumper is already installed. It also depends on the bumper some are recessed and some just mounts on top.

In most cases, yes, but I'm telling you it is easy with the Mopar bumper after installed on a 2010. I even had room to attach a couple Hella Blacks next to the winch with bumper and winch installed. The LP8500 is much smaller than the Warn powerplant the dealership offers to install with this bumper. It sinks down in there nicely.

TJ guying chiming in here ... On the TJ you must mount the winch to it first. Might just be a carry over on the directions that won't apply to your JK.

Another side note: I'm VERY happy with my LP8500.
1 more side note: I went to our local Farm & Fleet here in the Chicago suburbs and bought it. No shipping involved. Not sure where you are at or if you have these stores but if it's back ordered (reason for not receiving it yet) you might be able to get it sooner (and cheaper) Mine was only $350.00 about a month ago.
