Talk about a LAZY install....

So I've had my Jeep about 3 weeks. The tops been off 2 weeks and I'm rocking a Spiderwebshade. Well, today I decided to take the doors off too. It's starting to get hot and I want the door off, especially since I might not be able to rock that look too long in the AZ summer. I crawl under the drivers side dash looking for the plug for the wiring and what do I see? THE DEALER TAPPED INTO THE WIRING HARNESS ON THE DOOR SIDE OF THE HARNESS! Now I have something tapped into my door harness going to who knows where in the dash. I don't feel like tracing it right now and the shots from my camera are terrible, but does anyone know WTF this is?

It blinks green when the doors are locked and I believe it's something the dealer installed for protection while on the lot.

The Jeep has no remote start, just plain Ol Jane OEM keyfobs.

The next picture, doesn't show the entire wire harness and taps, but there are three.

During the time I was window shopping with a dealer, when we would come across a Jeep that was locked, he would just tap on the a-piller on the drivers side and the doors would unlock. He showed me some keyfob he had that worked with all the vehicles on the lot. Since this wiring is connected to the wires on the drivers side, I suspect this is how they did it. Trust and believe, that will be taken off when I go in on Friday.

Just a thought but did you finance? Have heard of some lenders doing this as it lets them keep tabs so if you don't pay makes it easy for them to pickup.
It's financed, but I've heard that is done usually with high risk mom and pop shops. This was through a large dealer and my credit is perfect. It literally took 30 minutes for me to submit my application, get approved and take delivery of the vehicle.

Does your jeep have an alarm? I don't believe it is standard on the JKR, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a dealer-installed money-maker.

Whatever it is, they'd have to fix it and make sure that spot gets some electrical tape.

I'm not a big fan of electrical tape to repair damaged insulation. I'd make them pull the pin out of the connector (they have tools for that) and slide a piece of heat shrink over the damaged area... Just my $.02.

i have a feeling i know what it is. I think its a lojack type of device. its a mopar something rather. i havent looked under mine, but i know i have that device. they said i call them if its stolen, and they can track it down and get it back. it was included in my purchase for free since they didnt know it was there and i was charged for it. they deducted the price back out. win!

If you've financed the Jeep, dealers usually put a tracking device in their vehicles so they can find them if needed. High risk credit gets an ignition interrupt as well...

If he went to a main dealership he is probably financed through a bank and by the dealer themselves, is my guess. At that point the dealer could care less what you do with payments as they have their money.

Plus, if it was a kill switch or tracker they wouldn't have placed it in such an obvious to find place.

Looks like some dealership anti-theft device. It's just pulling power from the harness through that "T" tap. Just unplug it and take your doors off.

Just in case though, when SWAT shows up, hide you're dog and walk out backwards with your fingers locked behind your head.

T taps like that are very common in the auto alarm industry, most shops will not solder in an alarm harness for a super cheap/free install especially for a dealer installed option.

Also I would not want allot of the "kids" in a stereo/alarm shop to go anywhere near my vehicle with a soldering iron/gun.

As others have mentioned, it's part of a dealer installed aftermarket add on alarm. That is a motion sensor that will trip the factory alarm when it senses someone's feet sliding into your drivers seat. My '15 Rubi has one. Seems to work great.

I must have not submitted my reply days ago. It is the dealer installed aftermarket alarm. I took it in the next day and they redid the wiring on that door, improved my remote range from 2ft to 15 (Fortin alarm will be replacing this) and threw in 5 free oil changes.
