Am 6'3" and am having a hard time finding a comfortable seating setup. It seems like the seat will not go back far enough for me. I feel like my right leg is just past a 45 degree angle. I am use to having the leg stretched out much more. Am I missing something? It almost seems like the Jeep that I test drove's seat was able to move farther back.
Other tall people, what are your experiences and/or fixes?
Thanks!
My husband is 6'3" and not a small guy. He doesn't have any issues with the driver's seat. He has a 2013 JKU Sport S. I have a 2014 and he doesn't have any issues driving mine, either.
Have you tried tilting your seat back just one click? It sits you REALLY straight and even I feel cramped if it's not back a click, and I'm only 5'10", and I drive with the seat pushed all the way back.
I'm 6'5" with longer legs than torso.
To reach the steering wheel, I can't go back as far as I'd like ---- I crank the seat almost all the way up to take up the slack and tilt the steering wheel up.
A telescopic steering wheel would be a plus for normal-sized people like us.
BTW, my driver's seat lowers itself. The dealer has already replaced the mechanism; it does it slower now, 4 days until I need to adjust instead of 2-3 times a day, but it still does it. I think it's because my frame is so wide that I'm sitting on the side bolster and hitting the adjuster sometimes. Especially getting in/out and clutching.
I had the same problem with my seat. The dealer told me that I was pushing down on the lever when I got in and out. Given that there is a fold in the seat right above the handle, I'm assuming they were right. Wish they still would have replaced the mechanism like they did for you... I'm still adjusting 2-3 times a day...
I am 6'3" with the leather seats and a 6-speed. No comfort problems for me. In fact, with the driver's seat all the way back the clutch is too far away for me to press it all the way down.
Same thing but auto. trans. I have to move seat forward to reach everything comfortably. I'm 6'1" and JK has a very good driving position for me. Maybe there's a problem with some seat adjuster mechanisms ? My seat height- adjuster pretty much stays were it's at unless my wife drives it, and even then it's simple to readjust. Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I can always find a comfortable position, even on long road trips.
Another tall guy in a Jeep problem: anyone else find it impossible to see the green turn signal indicators on the dash? I have to slouch down if I want to see under the overhang.
I have a 2009 JK with cloth seats and it's the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. I was very surprised by the headroom and leg room when I test drove it for the first time.

I'm 6'3" and I agree. I also have cloth seats (hate leather, too hot) in my '09 JK. I'm very comfy and have plenty of leg room. Remember, it's not a sports cars where you sit with your legs almost straight out.:iamhappy:
I'm 6'5" and I must be going against the grain, I always lower the seats in all my vehicles, its a 2 door auto, wish the steering wheel telescoped, I'm one or two click from the furthest back setting, take shoes off when I drive any distance, find it pretty comfy as long as the tire pressures are right, dealer had them at the off the truck, super high and it was bouncing all over the place, after I got that right, moved the wheel up, seat down and back, I find it very comfortable.
I will say the TJ did have a better positioning for me but the ride and seats don't compare to the JK.

I'm about 6'0... no problems at all.. best thing i would recommend is reclining the seat a tad. i do realize we aren't driving around in gangsta Donks and bubbles, but hey you gotta do what you gotta do to drive comfortably.
Previously, I always moved the seat all the way down and back. With the JK, I (6-3) am more comfortable with the seat and steering wheel raised and the seat slightly more forward.
6' 4" here and no issues getting comfortable at all. Sometimes my foot feels too big for the accelerator pedal and I have to move it around until I find the right spot again.
6'4" here with a JKU. I drop the seat all the way down and push it most of the way back. I recline the seat back one click. I have enough head room and can see out OK, but in this position there is little support for the back of my thighs. Because the seat is positioned low to the floor and my legs are long, my legs lift off the meager seat provided. This puts all my weight on only half of the real estate on my rear end. I do wish the seat bottom was deeper - or extendable, like some vehicles offer.
I have a slightly different issue, though entirely related. I have the seat all the way back and down, but my legs aren't long enough or short enough (they're just right) to avoid having my knee where the end of the dash panel is. I'm 6'5", 300 and plenty pounds. It hits right where the joystick is for the mirrors. My knee sits with the edge of the dash between my patella and lower leg bone(s).
For the lack of a better phrase, it annoys the living hell out of me. On short rides, I don't notice it much. But longer rides... I have to adjust my rear end to either have my leg rest against the axle shifter or to have it with my knee at that edge.
I've tried pulling my seat up, but I feel like my chest is in the steering wheel when I do that.
So I'm trying to devise some sort of cushion for that corner of the dash. I'm looking in to either getting some of that one-sided sticky cushion tape or having some sort of backpack strap kind of thing with velcro go between the center storage console and my dash to keep my leg pushed over. Either way, I feel like it looks wonky.
Has anyone tried anything for knee/leg cushioning against the dash?
I feel for ya, I'm 6-2 and find I just fit with the seat all the way back and reclined.... the height doesn't seem to really matter, although the higher it is the less your leg will be bent ?
Although my knee hits the window crank... if i had figured that out before i bought it I would have sprung for power windows just to get the crank out of the way
I'm 6'4" and as others have said I tilt the upright back and have no issues at all. Mines a 2 door and I have rather long legs. My left knee did hit the window crank until I bought a puller and turned the crank to opposite direction when the window is up.
"Misch's BigBoy Brackets have been completely redesigned to now give you and additional 2 inches of legroom, from the stock seat position. The new design makes installing the brackets a simple job. No drilling, or modifications, are needed to either the seat, or floor, to accommodate these new brackets. Installation takes approximately 10-15 minutes per seat."
Rick, be sure to let us know how these work out. I'm only 6-3 but long legged and I've always thought an extra inch or so would be welcome. And yes that's what she said too.
