Edit: I guess you can get pretty close in metric sizes, but not with a 15" wheel. Meh.

Is it me, or does the front coil in the last pic look like it has a little bend to it? Might just be the pic.

Looks real good though.

Could be the pic. I looked at both very closely after the install and they were each straight. The kit has settled some so that may be part of it.

Out of curiosity, how long ago did you install the bumper stubby caps? I far prefer the look of the RC ones, but was curious how long it took them to fade to match the black tone of the rest of the bumper.

I saw you measuring. Did you get the full 2.5" ? More? Less?

Has it settled much in height since the short time you have had it on?

Thanks

The caps look much blacker in the last few photos I think because it was really sunny and very bright at the time I took the pics. Its closer to the actual color of the bumper but not exactly. I'm not sure if it will ever match it completely however I have seen some bedline the entire bumper and caps so that they are all the same color.

I did get all of the 2.5 in height and I think it was a little more. The Jeep has settled some since installing the lift but not much. The coils are very strong and I think its done now from going down any further in height.

MPG Update

One full tank of gas after installing the lift and lots of city driving = 17.04 MPG. Not to shabby for 33s and a 2.5 lift although I do miss the days of 19+ with the stocker.

One question, do I need to install shock boots with my shocks from this kit? It did not come with them and I have seen them installed both ways. What do you recommend?

Shock extensions. I've still got my OMEs for 0-2" of lift.

Keep in mind I've probably got about .5" of lift from the 19/60 Mopar coils, and then about an 1" from the DayStars, so this kit should probably only add about another inch. But still, yeah, it's going to be SWEET.

I'm a little torn on the install. I've decided I'm also getting new wheels (16s) and tires (33s) and honed down the field on those options, but I haven't yet pulled the trigger. I might want to wait to get the wheels/tires on first, since my stock BFGs might look a little dainty under a 2.5" coil lift.

But I could be persuaded otherwise . . . . What do you think?

On top of that, I've been meaning to get up with Dustin to install one of his electric doo-hickeys, so I've got to get up with him too.

I think Dustin may be away for a little bit. I was chatting with him through PMs this morning. I'm sure he'd be excited about installing one in your Jeep. He has quite the set up for all things mechanical at his place. Which tires and wheels did you decide on?

Dustin spent a lot of time working on an electronics plan for me, so I definitely owe him a few beers. Even more so if he helps with my lift.

Ahh, wheels and tires . . .

For wheels, first choice is the Pro Comp 7089. Tied for second are the Level 8 ZX and the Strike 5.

For tires, size will likely be 285/75/16. Or maybe the rarer but slightly taller 295/75/16. First choice is of course the DuraTrac, though they're expensive compared to the rest of the field. Haven't really prioritized my next choices, but I'm looking at the Kelly Safari TSRs, Cooper Discoverer STT, BFG AT KOs, the Falken Rocky Mountain or Wild Peak, or the Kumho MT KL71.

The bad news is unsprung weight. The 17" stock Moabs come in at about 25 lbs and the stock BFGs are about 48 lbs (total = About 73 lbs). Each of the wheels I'm looking at also weigh about 25 lbs, and each of the tires come in at about 60 lbs (total = About 85 lbs). So depending on the specifics, I expect to put about 10 to 15 more pounds on the end of each axle.

15" wheel...My neighbor I think you know is running 305/70/16s on his procomps with 4.1 gears though and hes getting pretty comparable mpg numbers. They are definitely heavier than the stocker bfgs that were on there. Are you not looking at tires on 15s at all?

Yeah, I know. The weight on your DuraTracs is unbelieveable, even when compared against other tires for 15" wheels.

My problem is that 15s look too small to me on the 4 doors. The proportions of TanManRubi's look better to me. I dunno . . . I was hoping to get some of the weight back on the wheels, but I found out yesterday from DTD that wasn't going to be the case, so I might reconsider.

Interesting that he's getting comparable gas mileage. It's got to be the 4.10s. I of course have the *legendary* 3.21s . . . .
