Teraflex Hinge + HD Carrier

If I already own the HD Tire Carrier, can I just purchase the hinge and swap it right in? There aren't any extra parts that are included when you buy it all in one package that I would be missing, is there?

You will be good to go with just the hinge if you have the tire carrier. Nothing extra comes with it when you buy them as a set.

Just installed both last night, came out great, sturdy as a mofo
Took me three hours to install it all, I found the instructions were missing a little, but common sense got me thru it

The TF install video was really helpful, it explained things better than the written instructions.

Same deal....confusing, but I thought that was the beer.....Anyone thought of a better way to use the 3rd brake light instead of going through the wheel?

I kind of like it the way it is, it blocks the lug nuts so they'll have to do more to steal my wheel :-D

I have the Delta lug nut lights that were linked above and they work awesome with the Teraflex carrier. When you need your spare just unplug the lights, unbolt it, and pull 'em out. Get's rid of that big ugly license plate bracket and the ugly factory taillight.

anyone know if you can use the Teraflex third brake light extension with their full carrier kit? as opposed to the bracket that sits over the hub?
I'm also trying to find a good solution to a license plate relocation with plate light as I'll be using a stubby rear bumper.

Not unless you do a lot of trimming to it. I thought it would fit and it does not but I'm going to try to trim it to get it to work.

If you are looking to relocate the plate anyways, why wouldn't you use the third brake light bracket that came with the tire carrier?

Here are some pics of my old rig. I reinstalled the hinge carrier on my new rig, but haven't taken many photos yet.

I added these LED pods under the third brake light, ran the wires to the passenger side tail light and spiced them into the park lamp wiring.

Nice man, what kind of quick-disconnect do you have set up for those lights? I'm looking to relocate my plate also and the lighting was an issue. It looks like you can get away with just one light, they seem really bright.

I actually used the connector that was attached to the license plate harness.

Also it isn't as bright as it appears. I have a plexiglass cover so it's throwing some light. It actually works out pretty well.

perfect. that's what I was figuring that I needed to do. thanks.

the only problem I for see is also wanting to install the Exo rack from Vector.

the reason I wanted to relocate the plate is because I'm ordering the XHD rear pods like you had. did you move them over to your new jeep yet?

I really like the Exo rack also, but I don't see how it would work with the plate relocated.

Yes, I spent past week throwing in a Teraflex 2.5 inch lift, Monster Front Track bar, the Hinge/carrier and my 315/70-17 Duratracs on Mickey Thompson Signature Series Wheels. I'm going to so the Teraflex Exhaust spacers this weekend for piece of mind.

The first pic has the OE plate location. Mopar makes a plate delete plug. You just take off the plate holder (5 or so screws) and the retaing clips (minimum of the two at the hole) and replace with tge plate delete.

i wonder if their Exo Rack Light Riser plate can remain installed when the rotopax are mounted - in which case, you could mount the brake light and plate on top of that.

the plate delete looks so good with those xhd pods. i just wonder how banged up the corner panel would get. . .

You know what, I just reread everything and I appologize. I thought we were talking only about the hinge/carier. My new rig is a COD MW3 with the AEV bumpers. I left the pods on my old rig because I didn't have bumpers to replace it when I they totaled the Jeep. I'm running the AEV bumper.

As far as the Pods and protection, unfortunately, I didn't have the Jeep that long after I installed the new Rugged Ridge bumpers to wheel it, so I couldn't tell you. It's definitely less protection that the full width bumper, but then again, I never hit the bumper when I wheeled. If you are crushing your current bumper then you may want to rethink it.

Don't let it sit there too long. You may be unhappy to find what the plate bracket is doing to your paint job. Unfortunately it's the same with the tail lights.

I am still on the fence with this carrier or the AEV carrier. Does anyone know if this TF has options or accepts a pull pal and high lift like AEV?
I also need something that will accept my Yakima SpareTime bike rack.
Yakima SpareTime spare tire Bike Rack
I'm guessing it will work, but would like to hear if anyone has experience with it.

the TF has optional brackets for hi-lift and roto-pax.

The bike carier will work, but you'll need to figure out how to run a third brake light and of course the plate relocation will be out of the question.

After more comparing and brain storming. I think I will go with AEV. The only draw to the TF for me is the centered and lowered final resting point for the tire. However my main concern is to get the weight off of the rear gate completely. 35's, pull pall, high-lift, and gas add a ton of weight to an already weak area of the Jeep. The fact that AEV's carrier distributes the weight to the chassis is key.
Thanks for the replies and insight. This is why I love this forum!
