TeraFlex Inc., manufacturer of TeraFlex suspensions, body protection equipment, low range gearing and HD axles, introduces the newest heavy duty component for the JK Wrangler.

The TeraFlex Heavy Duty Adjustable Tire Carrier & Tailgate Reinforcement Kit is designed to carry up to a 37" tire over the most extreme trails and obstacles, and provide easy and immediate access to the rear cargo area with a single action.

The TeraFlex Heavy Duty Adjustable Tire Carrier & Tailgate Reinforcement Kit spreads the load and weight of the tire to more than just one hinge point. Incorporating and using the factory tailgate hinge mounting points spread and separate the load as far apart as possible, resulting in maximum strength and durability.

Dedicated tooling provides a cast A356.2 T6 Aluminum main component. This keeps the carrier as light, and strong as possible. The fit and finish is designed to follow the flow and contour of the Jeep tub, while seamlessly providing additional mounting points for off road accessories such as recovery jack and fluid containers. The factory Jeep tub provides substantial internal gussets and bracing that easily supports the new tire carrier and oversized tire. The HD hinge brackets are forged steel and the HD 5/8” hinge pins are constructed from cold formed high-carbon hardened steel. The combination of mounting location and HD mounting brackets provides one of the strongest, rattle-free tire carriers on the market today. The TeraFlex HD tire carrier removes all stress from the gate by utilizing the HD reinforcement carrier as the load-carrying component, in effect it carries the weight of the tailgate assembly and the spare tire.

Product Features & Benefits:
• Lightweight aluminum
• Maintains single one-handed entry to the Jeep cargo area
• Allows adjustment for up to 37" tire
• Threaded mounting holes for mounting accessories (fuel cans, recovery jack, etc.)
• Eliminates tailgate stress and rattles
• Simplicity and Ease of installation - installation can be performed using common hand tools.
• No drilling required.
• Factory form fitting geometry and finish. CAD-designed tooling follows the precise compound curvature of the Jeep body, resulting in a carrier with an OEM appearance.
• No aftermarket bumper purchase required – works with OE and aftermarket bumpers.

Thanks for the update, looks like you guys are beginning to mass produce this tire carrier

I remember reading a few months ago that using just the tire carrier (without the hinge) for 35's was ok. For whom would you recommend the full $700 set?

Also, any more free shipping promos?:whistling:

So do you need the tire mounting kit or not? Your website says it is "recommended" but provides no other specifications. Also, are you making kits with various mounts for gas cans, etc? The video said it comes predrilled for gas mounts, etc, but I don't see these mounts on your website. I would be very interested in this, since it would allow me to run a bumper without a tire carrier, so I need to know that I can mount things. Thanks for the help!

the video says the hinged carrier is good up to a 33" tire....it says you will need additional components to go 35" or larger. the additional components is the adjustable hd tire carrier for $199. both are sold together for $699. hope this helps.
My understanding was/is that the additional components are only needed for a 35" if it needs to be moved up to prevent it from rubbing the bumper. I'm currently running the stock bumper and my 35" was not rubbing with the stock carrier.

I swapped out the stock hinges for the TF Hinged Carrier only (not the additional components) and because nothing changed vertically the tire still doesn't rub just like it didn't with the 100% stock set up.

I'm hopefully going to be swapping out the bumper soon though so I don't know if that will change the vertical separation and force me to get the additional components.

I would love this if they came out with accessory mounts like a cargo basket, gerry can holders, etc. Then it would truly be an excellent replacement for a tire carrier. I will hold off until these things are answered I guess. My 33" tire is doing fine on the stock carrier.

I think this is in my future. I'm tired of opening the carrier then the tailgate then closing the tailgate then closing the carrier.. This is a PITA when ur on the trails, especially when theres a break down or someone stuck..

great setup...i love it. went from aev carrier to this so i could run a different bumper. very pleased with the quality and strength. i have both the hinged assembly and the adjustable carrier. increased my visibility through the back window due to the lower postion of the tire. it keeps the tire really close to the gate as well. no movement or rattles. if you are on the fence about this...get one!!!

any more pics of this installed with the light bracket as well? This is really the first pics I've seen at all not from Teraflex. I'm thinking about running just the adjustable mount without the hinge. I've got a 35'' nitto trail grappler on the stock moab and there just isn't enough room on the stock mount. Everything I've seen teraflex put out says that the mount alone should be enough with this set up. Just don't run a 37" without the hinge as well.

According to teraflex you'll be fine with just their Adjustable Tire Carrier, but any stress on the hinges and door sheet metal would remain. But that being said, the teraflex adjustable tire carrier is WAY stronger than the stock carrier, which, when you take it off, will feel like it belongs in the recycle bin.

well...per Teraflex the whole system decentralizes the stress points on the door/hinges by distributing the stress across the door and onto the more robust rear quarter panel. I buy it...i bought it. ;) But without a doubt replacing just the tire carrier would be a big improvement since i have seen a couple stock tire carriers develop cracks, which would scare me. I have not seen any door or hinge failures myself, but i am sure others on this forum have.

Don't know if anyone's seen this or not. Snatched it off the Jeeposphere...if it's been posted here, ignore. :thumb:

This bracket is pretty close to what the production version will be. The extra holes are for mounting a Hi-Lift/RotoPax to. There is also a CB mount that is built into the top of the bracket. TeraFlex is also considering other items that customers will want to mount to the bracket.

Three issues for me...
1. I wonder if my spare-mounted Yakima bike rack will still work with this and a 315/75/R16 Duratrac on a 16x8.5 Level 8 Tracker (4.5" BS)
2. If the bike rack works, I'd need to come up with a different 3rd brake light solution than the one included with their adjustable carrier. Does the stock brake light mount still work well (snug) with the new adjustable carrier if you simply use the $15 extension they sell here:
http://www.teraflex.biz/jk-stock-brake-light-extension-bracket-kit.html
3. If you use just the adjustable carrier with a 35" tire, can you still end up ruining your tailgate when you hit the trails, or do they stand behind their earlier claim that the new HD hinges aren't necessary for a 35" tire?

Anyone have any answers or suggestions? TF, you there?

you get what you pay for dude. i've seen some of the inexpensive bumper/carrier combos and the quality lacks regardless of what people say. guys have to bungee the latches closed to go wheel or they swing open on the trail...lol check things out in person for yourself and decide, unless price is the only factor for you.

I couldn't agree more. No rattles, no needing to open the carrier first then the tail gate. I actually use the rear more now instead of just throwing mu stuff onto the passanger seat. A couple of times the carier didn't close right and ended up swinging open as I drove. No more of that.

you can use the brake light extension bracket, but the kit comes with a new braket that mounts the light and license plate in front of the center of the wheel. I didn't use either and have my AEV CHMSL mounted up. The lug lights are cool too.

The break light extension is not bad I guess I might go with that solution. I don't like the light mounted in front of the center of the wheel.. It looks weird in my opinion.

daavid2....check out the AEV CHMSL. it will mount right up and show through the top hole on you savegre. i run the same wheels and its tits. its like $45 though. comes with a led light and the mounting bracket. the mount fits the 5x5 lug pattern and slips over the studs on the tire carrier.
