So I saw the teraflex response in another thread. Basically blamed it on the customer while most members did the same. He was lying about a 37" tire, must of been a 40", must of been prerunning or jumping whoops, didn't happen just driving a dirt trail, wasn't a flaw or defect, installed wrong, etc. got it. I see where they stand.....at least they replaced it.

What has been everyone's experience in removing the tailgate torx bolts? I really like the carrier, but am very leery of removing the torx bolts without stripping or breaking them. I had a very bad experience changing out the hinges on my YJ Yeats ago.

No issues with removing the torx bolts on the hinge, but I did strip the torx screws for the 3rd brake light on the stock carrier

That is the consensus from talking to people that are familiar with the situation...

I was hesitant as well but I ended up using the bracket. I didn't relocate the plate but I was looking for a new place for my sticker so it worked out well.

Anyone using this as a third brake light replacement? Not sure how much of a hassle it is when rotating tires, although it doesn't look like it should be a problem with the disconnects:

I use the aev 3rd light with my tf carrier. Allows me to retain chmsl even when running without a spare. I don't like the tf light bc it covers up the spare

I went with the Delta lug nut lights.

I ran into issues with the spacers provided with the Delta kit and the wheel studs on the TF carrier. The spacers don't fit flush against the TF tire carrier because the wheel studs are wider at the base of the carrier. The washers are plastic and I broke one of them trying to torque down the spare lug nuts. The spacers provide room for the wires so they don't get pinched/damaged inbetween the spare and tire carrier.

I ended up getting two 3/4" metal washers from Lowes for each wheel stud and used that for spacers for the wire. I haven't had any issues.

I was debating between the TF 3rd light option and the Delta lug lights. I wasn't going to relocate my plate and was going to do what Kssting did with a sticker and I didn't want to retain the factory wiring adapter. Ultimately, I went with the delta lug lights because it looks cleaner. Plus the deltas are easy to remove with the disconnects.

yeah both of your guys setup's look good. i just completely removed my third brake light.. guess that's why i'm kicking this around to begin with. it's been gone for about a year now... but i wouldn't mind putting it back on there.

part of me would like to just run that brake light as a tail lamp, you are required to have a light on your license plate... then i could move the plate and with the three lights... and my big arse tire sticking out -- it's sort of hard to miss me at night.

I'll probably go with the Delta lug nut lights as well when I mount my carrier. I had them on my TJ before.

Delta lug nut lights here, no complaints. I may switch to metal spacers like Shy, though. The plastic ones are crap...

Any install issues when using red Loctite on all the bolts? Is there a long enough set time in case you need to loosen something and re-adjust?

Loctite takes a while to set. You should have plenty of time to make adjustments.

I am now torn on if I should cut it or not because the way it is now I will not break the rear glass because it sticks up so far I can't smash it on the Hi-lift. If anyone cuts theirs let me know what you used and how difficult it was.
I am thinking of using my grinder if I decide to cut it. If I leave it 48" I doubt I will be able to keep it on and park in a parking structure of any kind.
If we forget to close the glass first, here is what happens on our rig with the 48 inch Hi-Lift Jack mounted on the Teraflex Accessory Carrier.

Pic one shows both the tailgate and glass closed.
Pic two shows both open all the way. On my rig the isolator has to be up all the way for the glass to open all the way.
Pic three shows that the contact with the glass and the jack handle is very early in the closing cycle. There is some flex in the handle so the tailgate comes to a halt about 12 inches into the swing without a bang. The spare tire in the foreground of the pic shows the tailgate only closes slightly, because it is actually the handle in lieu of the jack that makes contact.

In the few cases we might forget to close the glass first I do not think that this will be a problem in damaging the glass for us. If I wrap some tape or widen the handle with something soft at that point the glass will be insulated and the gate unable to close much at all.

However, with the shorter 42 inch the dynamics change. Also be aware if you cut the 48 inch jack, you may need to shorten the handle even more, since if it passes under the glass it still needs to clear the lift piston that holds the window open.

As a side note, I see that Hi-Lift makes a 36 inch version of their slightly more expensive Cast and Steel Jack. It’s not available in their standard red All Cast Jack.

I could us some advice as I am nearly finished with the install of the HD Hinge and the adjustable carrier. Everything went well but I'm unclear on how to set the tire (final step).

Is the right side of my tire supposed to rest on the HD hinge?
Thanks!

I ordered the hi-lift carrier for this on March 1st and it went to back order. I called Teraflex and they told me it would be 3 more weeks, as they had an unexpected demand for them and they just sent a batch to the powder-coaters.

Here is the relocation bracket that came with my Teraflex tire mount.

So they're quoting 3 more weeks from today for the HL mount? I ordered one from KOR March 11. I sure would like this thing to arrive soon.

Yes. Teraflex said they had no idea how popular the HL adapter would be when they offered it. It caught them totally unprepared. They are scrambling to fill the orders.

Damn. That's nice. It looks awesome with the lights and light mount!

I was going to order them and paint them black, but wasn't sure of fitment! Maybe after the current tires are done! Is that the jeeps name? That's my nickname! What size tires by the way?

Yeah- I'm headed to rausch next Friday with a few of the fellas (3 of whom are active here on WF) and it sure would be nice to have the mount. My old cb mount doesn't fit the hinged carrier, so I'd have to rig something temporary if it doesn't show up
