As you guys can imagine this is one of our most popular items. Last week we did have them in stock but now we are out. The only thing we are missing is bolts for the hardware kits but those should be in any day now and we will be shipping out the door again.

If you do not put a jack on the high lift bracket, can you place 2 of the 3 gallon roto backs on to the bracket and still open the tail gate without busting your rear tail light?

Thanks for your help!

My wheel/tire combo is heavy and I run hard. Hopefully my 37" Nitto doesn't fall off and hurt someone.
Sorry, I missed out on this Conversation. Is teraflex replacing the first generation tire carriers?

Just out of curiosity, what combo were you running on that stock mount? Weight? Thanks

On a side note, I was just in another forum and wayalife got into a piss match with another member about how this carrier is dangerous. He's since edited the thread.

Not really. I was running a heavy tire and wheel combo and I beat my rig up.

That was a pic I found a while back....not my carrier. I wouldn't run anything bigger than a 35" on the stock carrier, and even with that I wouldn't be confident.

I've had the hinge for awhile, but I just ordered the adjustable mount recently. It's supposedly the new and improved mount according to Northridge. It arrived yesterday but hasn't been installed yet. How can I tell if it's the new version?

No, when the High-lift is not installed, one two gallon rotopak is all that will fit without coming into contact with the taillight when the tailgate is swung all the way open. Post 279 on page 10 in this thread shows some pics of this setup.

I had considered buying the hinged carrier, however, I think I will pass.

I have a 35" on the OEM carrier now and with the Smitybilt bumper it sits in the "pocket on the bumper - neraly half the tire.

The teraflex is a modified version of the stock carrier still mounting to the door. If you go up or down a step amd hit the tire hard enough - well your damaging the door. No way around it.

Alot of the guys on here I see with it, have Stock bumpers that are not protecting anything - its hallow plastic that going to fold up on any rock hit.

It appears (at the other forum) the guy who had the mount only that broke - his replacement had 2 extra gussets welded to it. So maybe hat issue has been addresed.

I think For $700 there are better tire carrier choices that offer more protection.

It seems that way until you have one and mount it and then you see that the TF hinge is heavy duty and is going to take considerable force to twist it. I had a hard time wrapping my head around how it worked until I got one and then it makes sense. For me I won't be extreme wheeling so dropping off a 3' ledge is unlikely for me. I still think the spare mount would break before doing damage to your tailgate.

Considering everyting is bolted to the door...the door is collateral damage no matter what.

It doesnt have to be a 3 ft drop either... any drop at the wrong angle/not enough lift - your hitting something hard usually!

I would have thought the same thing until I mounted it up. I totally understand where you are coming from. When I actually mounted it my worries went away. I did several moderate rated trails in Moab and spare tire was never even close. These things have pretty good departure angles.

I added my stock tire bumper back on the right side of the teraflex hinge using a 3/8 bolt. Now I have support on both sides similar to the stock set up.

I like this idea, I may have to steal it for mine.

I cut off the little nipple that usually holds the bumper into the tailgate. When you cut it off flush, it leaves a little hole. I used a 3/8 X 1" hex bolt. It fit perfectly. I used the middle hole out of the three on the hinge, but you could certainly use any of the three depending on your tire size. If you have to extend the bumper to reach your tire just use some heater tubing in the bumper. Mine fit nicely on the right side.

That guy is out of line. I know that our forum is friendlier than most other forums, but I have never seen something like that from admins and moderators anywhere. I just read the "2nd" thread (I don't know how many there really were) of the admin repeadetely slamming the member. Horrible. Anyway, I have this sitting in my garage and can't wait to get it on.

I'm thinking about getting one. I really like it mounts to the gate and I can add my high lift and cb antenna to it.

This is a great idea. Thanks for this. I will be doing this mod tonight..

Thanks
