You can just get a tow hitch slider for that. I'm actually going to get one to prevent exactly what you are describing.

Well I just had some ps corners cut to accept the carrier. I am putting on a jcr dagger rear. My goal is just carry the spare high and tight with the teraflex and to clear the drops. Other bumper and tire carrier combos stick out further, so I am hoping to gain clearance with it. We'll see.

Just installed mine last night, very easy install and it is a improvement over the stock hinges.

Any ETA on the accessory mount will be back in stock?

Thanks. For some reason I can't view your pics over at Wayalife. I've been running a 35" Trail Grappler on the stock tailgate for the past year and it finally broke some spot welds. Just ordered a Teraflex hinge yesterday.

Just ordered the kit tonight from Rebel Off Road for $620 shipped with their 10% off Labor Day coupon code. I've been searching for months on the cheapest and this was it.

Am I the only one who doesn't see why these are so great? $600 is a lot for just a hinge and carrier. That is almost the same price as a normal tire carrier (minus the rear bumper). Can someone explain this to me better or is it just like how I see it?

Only other tire carrier in the same price range is Or Fab. Then you have the eBay/Smittybilt knock off bumper/tire carrier in the $500 range. Next step up is probably Ace Engineering's bumper/tire carrier at $885.

I impulse bought the Teraflex hinge since I got it on sale for $378 and my tailgate finally busted a spot weld/cracked another recently, so I needed a solution now. I'd rather run a full bumper/tire carrier. Don't like the idea of the spare tire attached to the tailgate, especially off steep drop offs or if you accidently rear end something.

Price of convenience and aluminum... and well, they are trying to pull an AEV with this one, just as traumahead posted above, there are quite a few alternatives that offer better protection, but not many need that protection but still want larger tires.
Considering the setup still uses the tailgate to act as a nut to bolt the carrier and braces, its completely dependent on it for its proper functioning, and well, any hit on the tire is a hit on the tailgate.

High and tight. Many tire carriers stick out quite a bit further. If the tire is out further, you are more likely to catch it coming off an obstacle.

This is the route I will probably take. I like what everyone here has said about this tire carrier.

That plate bracket comes with the teraflex kit. You just cut your 3rd brake light off it's mount and put it there. All you need to buy after that is a light for your license plate.

Correct. The offroad only license plate led light with integrated third brake light. Super clean solution. I no longer have the sheet metal where the old license plate holder was so this works. The plate bracket comes with the teraflex kit.

No unless you have a newer model, I have a 12 and it has a stop in it to keep it open. Not sure what year that came out on.

mine says open to where ever I open it too. It also has a built in stop so it will not open too far which is a nice feature.

The is nothing that holds the tailgate open. There is a built in stop in the Teraflex HD Carrier that keeps the tailgate from opening more that approximately 90 degrees. This is needed to keep any accessories like the Hi-Lift from coming in contact with the taillight or the Rotopac with the Freedom top if you have those installed. Here is a pic of mine at the max opening. Close, but no contact.

As an aside, from the second pic you can see why Teraflex says we can only use the single two gallon Rotopac container. What appears to be plenty of room with the tailgate closed, turns our to be no extra room when the tailgate is swung wide open.

Running a Trektop NX right now. Looks like 2 would fit if the Rotopax was mounted higher?

Good point, we would have to try it. I would love to hear what any other Forum members have experimented with.

The more weight and the higher we go on the Hi-Lift, the more pendulum force against the jack. We need to keep an eye on it to be sure it stays bolted in tight. Some Forum members have questioned the engineering wisdom of using the Jack as a mounting point for further accessories. To me it seems ok at the lighter load, but doubling the weight in gas and moving it up higher makes their point more valid.

I assume Teraflex did their structural engineering homework and there is plenty of safety margin in the design. Everything appears beefy, especially the Hi-Lift itself. Just a minute ago I climbed onto my Accessory Mount and stood just on it (my feet were on top of the base of the installed Hi-Lift). I got just a little flex from my 175 pound weight in the aluminum of the Accessory Mount itself. The HD Carrier was rock solid.

My Hilift carrier came in this weekend. Unfortunately, I didn't see where only a 2 gallon rotopax would fit. I had ordered a 3 gallon. I wonder if the 4 gallon would work without the high lift jack.

Got the tire carrier mounted. Tailgate closed fine on the day I installed it, put the spare on a couple days later and found out it's mounted a bit low as it hits the top of the striker first.
