So I got the hinge yesterday (no adjustable carrier) and installed it last night. Super easy install - but it took much longer than it should have since I had to touch up all of the exposed metal underneath the factory hinges. I also trimmed the 3rd brake light, so there was some extra time.
There are some threaded holes on the passenger side of this - so it looks like Teraflex has some plans in the works for accessories. Couldn't say how they'll all attach, but there's definitely more than you'd need for just a hi-lift.

Great catch. Just out of curiosity, is that a 48" or a 60''? What do most of you guys use?

Checked and nothing on their website today. In an earlier post Teraflex said "sometime in two weeks" on 1/14, which would give us something on 1/28. Another word from their customer service was "Sometime in Feb".

Not that I am counting the days.........

Anyone know if there's a way to mount the OEM 3rd brake light with this carrier if you're sticking with the OEM tire mount and running 35's? Unless I missed it I haven't seen it in any of the posts.

Thanks

The 3rd brake light is part of the stock carrier, so yes, you can just leave it in place. Or, if it's not tall enough, you can buy one of the extender kits that are out there.

Better yet, add the telescoping TF carrier to the mix, and use that instead. Or perhaps the Delta lug nut lights (which is what I did)...

Thanks bud, I hadn't yet heard of the extender kits which looks you need with 35's. I'll search the other 2 options too...thinking I'll be pulling out the wallet again.

You may not need a tail light extender kit for your 35. Here's a pic of my stock third light with my 34.4 inch LT31570R17 BF Goodrich All Terrain. Many other 35s are in that mid 34 inch range.

I heard from someone there yesterday via email. Officially Feb.....but hopefully end of this week. I would not hold him to it, new product releases always seem to have a thousand last minute issues that pop up.

I am really surprised at how anxious I am for this particular product. I WANT IT but am not even sure exactly what it is.

Good call Coaster! Installed the carrier this weekend and turns out I can get away without having to trim the 3rd brake light. Don't have a pic but mine is sitting pretty much just as yours is and I'm on 35" KM2's..

If anyone does happen to want a pic let me know and I'll post one up.

Thanks

What's everyone doing about a license plate light for the TeraFlex HD Hinged Carrier & Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit? I've read this thread as it and others have progressed but maybe I missed it.

The adjustable spare tire mounting kit has you cut the third brake light of the stock carrier and mount it to the license plate bracket. Although, there's no provision for a license plate light!

A shop recommended this kit from poison spyder:

So it's one option but it would be nice to see if there are others.

$40

Guess it just goes with the territory of early releases of products to have to sometimes do some extra leg work.

Here's another option with license plate light and third brake light in one from gem right:

Wiring in LED lights has always been problematic on past jeeps for me and I'm not sure how the canbus system would work with this.

Here is the one I use.

AEV Conversions 10404001AA - AEV CHMSL (3rd Brake Light) - Quadratec

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize you guys were discussing PLATE lights. My bad.

Lite boltz should work. Try this link instead.

I installed the Teraflex Hinged Carrier today. I always start these projects thinking something will go terribly wrong, but it really was a piece of cake. I haven't bought the tire mount yet after reading that some of the 35" tires will still fit with the stock mount. One added benefit that I wasn't expecting is that the tail gate won't be flying open like before if parked on a slope.

I'm hopefully buying 35" GY MTRs later this month, so at least I have the hinges done. Now I need to trim pinch seams and Rubi rails, have gussets installed...

PN 4838230 Rotopax Mount Bracket for Use on a Hi-Lift Jack Handle $29.99

It appears the Rotopax does bolt to the Jack. Joe says the Jeep at 13.30 minutes in the Teraflex suspension video is the product. He will be posting more photos soon, perhaps over the weekend. The website update is not quite ready.

The product is backordered and scheduled to start shipping around 2/14, pending QC checkout of the first production order.

Getting ready to order the tire carrier hinge and I'm never going bigger than 35's. Do i really need to buy the tire mounting kit for another 200 bucks? Is the factory one a POS or will it be sufficient? Is the Teraflex mounting kit that much better in my situation? What are the advantages/disadvantages besides being able to mount the tire 1" closer to the cab? Need opinions please, I can't decide whether just to order the hinge or the complete setup.

I'm in the same boat. Hopefully don't need it, really don't want to cut my third brake light to use the tire mounting kit.

Cutting the light is not a big deal
