TeraFlex spare tire hinge.

I know I probably did not need it but I got worried about the extra weight on the tail gate so I decided to go with a TF spare tire hinge. It is very well made and easy to install. They are not cheap by any means but Brian at 4wd.com totally blew everyone else's price way. I ordered it Tuesday and it showed up today (thurs) free shipping and fast too boot.

Just got mine in yesterday. Can't wait to get it installed but can't get it done for about a week. How long did it take you to install?

It is a very simple install. takes about 30-40 minutes. make sure you have a couple blocks of wood to stick between your bumper and the bottom edge of the tailgate so it does not slip out of alignment. Also have red locktite on hand. I reused my stock carrier so there was no reason to remove the back of it to disconnect the brake light. I just used a rubber cord to hold it out of the way until I was ready to put it back on. Teraflex has a real good install video that if you watch you do not even need the printed instructions.

I was skeptical about how it would work but after putting it on I can see how it takes the weight of the tire/wheel off the tailgate and supports the weight with the heavy duty hinges instead of the sheet metal of the tailgate.

I have one with the stock carrier. It is very beefy- much better than the stock hinge. I also have the Hi-lift vertical mount and a Rotopax. Works great together.
Of note: love that I can still see over my 35" tire. (I have JUST enough room for my 35" MTR with the stock bumper.)
And the hinge has a stop-mechanism- the gate (and the Hi-Lift) can only swing so far. You can't hit the tail light or anything else by the gate swinging all the way out.
I've seen complaints about the 3rd light extension but mine was long enough to get out of the way.

Wasn't letting me load the pic. I'll be switching the Rotopax to the other side.

Just FYi it rattles a little. It's not the mount;its the Hii Lift. The ratcheting mechanism shakes against the foot. Drilling a hole and adding a set screw.

I love mine. Anybody know the thread size for the 3 outer mounting holes? I would like to put in black bolts to close up the threads. Yes I am anal like that. Can't find the exact thread info anywhere and don't want to buy 9 different sizes to find it.
