Terrible problems with new Raxiom Head Unit – is it just me?
Hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on. I'm 99% sure I have a defective unit, but I suppose there's a 1% chance that I'm just missing something.
The Setup:
[1] Brand new, first time Jeep owner – so I'm not very familiar with 'em.
[2] Just spent better part of 2 days installing my new Raxiom Head Unit + Camera + SiriusXM.
[3] Took my time and methodically installed each component.
[4] Thanks to Sharpie's thread, install went almost exactly as I expected with no issues..... that is, until I started setting up and playing with the Receiver.
The Problems:
When I started the Jeep the first time, all seemed fine for a few seconds, but then the entire electrical system went haywire! The Jeep started beeping, the windshield wipers turned on, all the emergency lights flashed, the headlights came on, and the fuel gauge read Full then Empty then Full – it was frantic and crazy – I thought I'd fried the computer or something.
But it eventually calmed down and went back to normal.
Then about 15-20 secs later it did it again! Lights, wipers, beeps, etc... And continued going through this crazy loop over and over again. Probably 4 or 5 times before I shut the Jeep off. ullinghair:
Figured I could reset the computer by disconnecting the battery. Disconnected positive terminal for about 10 mins. Reconnected and turned the key to Acc On – but didn't start the Jeep.
The electronics seemed to be operating normally and the Raxiom powered up and was working perfectly! GPS, Camera, SiriusXM, USB, etc... It was working great for like 30-40 mins while I was testing everything out.
Totally excited and eager to put my dash back together. But wife was hungry and I decided to put the dash back together after dinner.
So come back to the Jeep 45 mins later, and the Raxiom unit WILL NOT POWER ON. ullinghair:
The ONLY way I can get it to power on is to take the radio back out of the dash (grrrrrr) and remove/replace the in-line fuse. The fuse is NOT blown, so simply popping out and clicking it back in does the trick. Once that is accomplished the Raxiom powers right up and seems to work fine..... until I shut off the Jeep for a few minutes. Every time the Jeep is shut off for 5+ minutes the Raxiom WILL NOT power on when I restart the car. So I have to pull and reseat the fuse again.
Occasionally after reseating the fuse the Jeep will go through that crazy loop with the beeps, wipers, emergency lights, etc, but most of the time it pretends to work fine..... until I shut off the car.
So now my dash is in pieces and I've wasted SO MUCH FREAKING TIME fooling with this stupid thing. After reading all the glowing reviews on this forum and elsewhere, it's hard to describe how disappointed I am! ullinghair: ullinghair: ullinghair:
The Question(s):
Have any of you Raxiom owners experienced any of this stuff with your receiver?
If so, have you worked out a remedy?
Or is my unit just defective?
