Test drove and inspected some 07 rubicons today

My wife and I went looking at some used 2 door rubicons today. The back seat access pretty much killed the idea off for her. I test drove a 6 speed 2 door hard top rubicon. It was a lot nicer ride than I expected. It also apeared oil changes are a snap as the filter is easily accessible from the hood reaching down to remove the filter.

I'm going to go look at a four door rubicon in the next few days. I might buy it if the length and turning radius don't irritate me a bunch.

I've been driving a manual steering rack 94 torsen rear end miata for the last week, so the rubicon was like floating around with super overboosted steering.

It was fun.

I def. liked the four door models better. The biggest perks for me is that its easier to access the back seat and actually has some cargo space. I to assumed they would be hard to manouver around being a little longer then the two door but they arent. I almost bought a 2 door, but I decided to check out the unlimiteds at the last minute and I am glad I did.

I loved the idea of the 4 door and waited for them to come out. But once here I didn't like the overall package. I like the rear seat. I like the extra space when the rear seat is folded forward. But I don't like the look. For me, a wrangler is 2 door.

My daughter (15) even said when I went out to buy my new 2008 - "If you come home with a 4 door Wrangler, I will disown you". She, of course, was kidding. But when I got to the lot (after not buying a year ago) I couldn't see me on trails with the longer Wrangler. Just half-defeats the purpose of a compact all-trail vehicle.

Plus I don't put my wife in the back so she doesn't worry about the rear-seat access.

If it's just 1 or 2 of you going camping and you tend to travel light, the 2-door might be fine. If you have kids or friends or elders that you need to cart around regularly, or if you like to have lots of stuff with you, the 4-door will be priceless. Getting into the back seat of the 2-door is very difficult, more so than on previous generations of Wrangler.

Agreed. The Wrangler is not a "family car". It is not meant for transporting the elderly. It's perfect for transporting one or two regularly or 3-4 occassionally.

I ended up buying the 4 door 07 rubicon. So far it has been great. I rarely offroad, and I don't plan on rock crawling anytime with it. It worked great last weekend when four of us loaded up and went caving. On movie nights I generally have four or five people in it riding around. If we had a two door, no one would want to ride in the wrangler.

I can also get a couple honda fifties and more building supplies, engines, etc. in the back of the four door. It should come in handy hauling crap around for my miata V8 conversion.
