They let you test drive manual? My dealer wouldn't let me... Poopers. You making me even more anxious to see what it feels like with a 2 door and the back seat removed lol.

How come they wouldn't let me test drive? No idea. They gave me no real reason. And they know I have been there on a motorcycle and VW Thing. I would think they knew I could drive one. But I quickly learned about the new engine and 2011s were quickly forgotten about. I haven't been to a dealer with 2012s on the lot yet. My dealer got in 4 two days ago. Not mine though.

Wow...I wouldn't go back to that dealer. That is some B.S. I would go buy your jeep somewhere else and then drive into their lot and smile and wave .

If a dealer told me I could not take a vehicle for a test drive I'd be shopping somewhere else as well. That makes no sence, standard or not. Maybe they dont understand how this works, we poke, prode, look here and there, open and close, crawl in and out and oh ya test drive....lol
Good luck

I'd seriously go back in and ask for the manager. How the hell would you know if you wanted to buy a stick shift if all they let you test drive were the automatics?? That makes absolutely no sense...

I was picking my new 2012 up and sitting in office waiting on my salesman to finish up and another young salesman comes in and grabs the keys to my Jeep.
He walks out to the front where my Jeep is and lifts the hood, opens the door and gets in.
I walk out to him and asked what are you doing, he replies I am about to take this bad MF out for a test drive cause we just got it in.
I laughed and said sorry this MF owns this Jeep so kindly get out.
He looked susprised and responded so can I still drive it?

6 speed, 3.73 gears and Trac-Lok.

Cannot wait for a 45 degree morning, roof off, engine warm, and a stopwatch...

0-60 7+....?

My guess.

I may be weird, but for some reason... I never get the feel to drive my jeep around fast to see how quick it is. I will admit, never driven a 2012, but the pentastar in a Durango moves it great, so I could only imagine. but when I get into a wrangler, i just don't get the adrenaline rush to stomp on it, I get a rush to go trail riding and explore some back woods/beach trails...which require not much power.

I see so much emphasis in this message board on how fast the 2012 Jeep is ( I am more interested in the fact it drives better, not that it is "fast"), but in reality, 8 seconds to 60 really is not that fast in today's terms. An EcoBoost F150 with TONS more power/get up and go and about 1500 lbs heavier, gets the mileage a 2012 Jeep does, for about the price of your jeep, and will stomp it in a race. I didn't figure racing was a priority for a Jeep, I figured off roading finesse/capability and the fact it had removable tops was. but, the more power is icing on the cake, so I thought....seems 0-60 times are now.

Silly me, need that RIPP supercharger asap! That 0-60 time is really lacking at 10 seconds on these old FM roads here in Texas, wonder if I could convince the wife... lol

Quit whining, take the 2011 back, eat the depreciation, and get your "racecar" so you will be happy being fast

See, no problem Jeeps hold their value well.

You don't have to be a hooligan to enjoy a little hooligan behavior...
I bet I'm not the only one who would've liked to have been the test pilot this day:

Like I said, I may be wierd. I drive the truck I have hard like that, spinning tires all the time, drive the wife's Sonata V6 like that since it is in the 6.5 second 0-60 range, but the Jeep is more of an adventurous ride to me, not a roadster, even the pentastar to me is not a roadster in a Wrangler. That is why I bought this vehicle and not a SRT8 Cherokee, which I could afford....money is not an issue. Like I said, I am a bit misguided these days, my Wrangler handles like slop anyway at higher speeds.

I didn't say I'd drive my Jeep like that...

But I admit that I've spun the tires a few times on the PW. The first time was by accident and I giggled like Peter Griffin for a half hour.

I just bought an 11, but I got a great deal--500 under dealer cost, so that was hard to pass up. I'm excited for everyone who is getting the 2012s!!! I hear all the great news about the engine, but give us some updates on the improved gas mileage.....and yes, that is a reality these days--we all want better MPG--even with Jeeps!

It may take a while to get a good feel for the gas mileage on the 2012....I'm driving like an idiot during the break-in period (flooring it periodically when at speed, constantly bumping it out of "Eco" mode, etc.). That said, for the first 150 miles, I averaged 16.8 mpg, which is just over the advertised city mileage...considering that the driving was almost exclusively city, that's not a bad sign.

The rated mileage on mine (JKU-R with 4.10s) is 16 city, 20 highway....I should get a feel for the upper end of that in a month or so.

I don't know, once his motor loosens up a bit, I am willing to bet his city mileage and highway mileage will increase. Motor is still new, that has an effect on it..correct? Mine seemed to get a miniscule amount of power after 3-5K miles or so, but the mileage increased from ~ 16.5 new to ~ 18.5 on my trips to work. Bet that his does too.

gotta wait for that diesel that was mentioned for 2013+ or thereabouts. I would LOVE to have a diesel wrangler, I bet it would get high 20's highway, and higher tow rating as well!

Yup -- that was my point in the statement that it may take a while to get "true" numbers. The motor is still new and I'm driving poorly (from a gas conservation standpoint) as part of the break-in process. Once I've got a good 500 miles on the engine, I'll change my driving habits a bit (after having some fun).

Agree.

I heard something about the 13 being a whole new design, my god, you think it's bad now? I think most of us will agree that
a diesel would be the answer. What can they possibly change that will not stray from the jeep image?

Heh...I'm coming from an Avalanche (where I was lucky to see 12mpg highway). Getting over 16 city is fantastic, from my perspective

Agreed. All the new vehicles I have had (3 lol) had better fuel mileage and a modest bit more power after breaking in. I think with the numbers I get in my 3.8L, you should be able to get 2 mpg better both ways highway/city, especially in the city with lower fierst ratio and more available gears (assuming auto?) But, fun does trump fuel economy, cannot blame you there A big grin ear to ear is priceless!

I don't think much else, unless they start making a "tin top" like the Suzuki did with the Samuri, then I would lose interest then, nothing would set the jeep apart from the rest o the cookie cutters. I am hoping and wishing for a diesel option, that would be worth getting rid of my current rig for.

Same here, except it was an F150 supercrew 4x4 lifted, ~ 13.5 and jumped to ~ 18 on the same trip with the Jeep! Much better in the days of high fuel prices.
