Just bought my new jeep, and I was wondering if the dealer Protector package is worth the cost. I want the jeep to stay rust free, my old jeep got a little rusty on the bottom of the doors on the inside, I want my new jeep to stay ruat free. Does anyone have experience with this?:surrender:

Wow... well, I got undercoating added on (dealer paid)... 'my last jeep rusted out so bad underneath... I live at 8000' in the Wasatch Mountains (up above SLC)... the roads are salted, salted in the city too. Utah gets a LOT of snow... After talking with other residents up here about the problem - found it's pretty common to undercoat, when new... keep checking for damage to undercoating (every time it's in for service and lifted so they can do so) - repairs done to chunks knocked out... and keep it clean. The keep it clean is a tough one, because a good portion of the winter, when I drive down to the city - it's below freezing.

That's the winter/spring. Then the summer/fall I'm at the west coast... with lots 'o salt air... probably going to get a cover for summer/fall... my last jeep was starting to rust on the hood too... :nonono:

I'm curious, did you know anyone who had the coating done that didn't have a rust problem? Never heard of this "protection" until I moved where rust protection is never needed. Obviously not worth paying for where it is not needed, yet offered at every dealer I've been to here.

Back in the cold, I used to go to the quarter pressure washer and leave the car running with the heater on and never had an issue with the neg temps. That was at least a weekly trip.

Rust is included

Rust is not an option on Jeep...its included in the sticker price.
I'd pay whatever they want (undercarrige, not paint) to coat. Would love bedliner, but thought about just taking it from the Dealer lot to MAACO and maybe have them spray the underside with clearcoat (?).

I coated my Liberty with Amsoil HD Metal Protectant, and I'm happy with the results. I plan on using Eureka Fluid Film on my Rubi when I get it. The trick is not to let rust start, then touch up once or twice a year.

True, but even if some rust has started, a coat of paint or bedliner will slow it down. Although rust never sleeps it needs oxygen to keep the chemical reaction going.

A former Jeep dealership owner told me a $15.00 lawn sprinkler placed under the Jeep three times a year for an hour will be more effective than any rust proofing. In fact he told me improperly applied rust proofing can add to the rust build-up, and dealers do not use their best techs to do the job! A cheap trick is to check all the door drain slots, on the bottom of the doors for blockages.

I never had the rust protection added by the dealer. Grew up in Ohio and drove there for 7 years. My cars never had any rust other than the steel cast parts underneath which are usually rusted when they show up at the dealer new. I would park on the street right next to my dad's trucks, they got solid rust on the entire driver side from the salt and slush kicking up on it. The difference was that I would take mine to the pay and spray when it started looking nasty.

Well, my JK is only a year old and I had the "extra protectant" added when I bought it. They sprayed the entire jeep down. Inside, outside, underside, everywhere. Don't have any rust but too early to tell also. I will say this though. I have left it outside topless and the rain doesn't really sink into the seats. IMO, it's worth it.

Yea and what's even worse is the so called extended warrentys they sell to anybody gullible and just bored out of their mined and listens to their stupid sales pitch and propaganda. It is way cheaper to just be self insured, and pay your own repairs after the factory warranty runs out. What is the power train warranty on a 11 3.8 wrangle anyway. Like five years-60 thousand miles. That seems like a eternity to have to drive this gocart powered thing to me so why pay for extra punishment.
The only way to go is the guaranteed price refund. If you never use it, you get your money back. Most of the engines today are disposable and can't be rebuilt. The cost of a new camry engine is about $8500 with labor.

Jeep Protector / Rust exterior and interior protrction

Thanks everyone for your posts. I wanted to see if anyone actually had experience with the Paint/ Rust/ and Interior protection on a jeep. I just traded in my 2004 Jeep Liberty LTD for a new 2011 Wrangler Rubicon. I loved my Liberty, but noticed that there was some rust on the inside of the doors. It was at the bottom of the doors. My Liberty was otherwise in Cherry condition. I really love the new Rubicon, and I wanted to try and protect it better.

I live in the northside of Chicago, and we only have a garage space for one of our Jeeps. One sits outside. We have LOADS of snow here in the winter, and the city and state use SALT in the winter, so RUST is an issue here. We also have a Farm property 3 hours west of the city. We go there a lot. It is wooded and has some trails nearby. Driving out there after dark is something! The BUGS are HUGE and I need to protect the new car from the monster bugs that SPLAT on the grill.

I am not so worried about the cost of having the new Jeep protected. I am looking at the works, Interior, Exterior Paint, Undercoating and they inject anti-rust sealant FOAM into the doors and places behind fenders and quarter panels. I just wanted to know if any one did this and how it worked? Did it prevent Rust? Did it make it rust MORE? One of you said that the protection they sprayed on the interior made the leather seats sort of water repellent? Sounds GOOD to ME! I will still wax my jeep on a regular basis, including the insides of the doors and the door jams.

This is my 4th Jeep, and my second Wrangler. I love the new one, and want to keep it looking GREAT:Thanx:
